With my trip to Israel, it helped to reignite my desire to learn more about the Jewish faith.

This doesn't seem to be about religion, but more about the trappings and customs of a particular culture. Interfaith marriages only work if neither person is serious about their religion. So, in a sense, you are right. Your parents taught you religion didn't matter because they weren't religious. If you've converted, hopefully it's because you've found the truth of judaism to be absolute, and you wish to worship God and make him the center of your life. If it's just to be able to have some holidays with the family, you dishonor Him, them, yourself, and all the jews who have ever lived and died for their faith. Same goes for any faith.

Hopefully you converted to Conservative Judaism:
"Abraham founder/father of three major religions was probably a mythical character. If he was real, he was at best a combination of at least three men. 1.5 million Conservative Jews and their rabbis have relegated Abraham to the myth pile along with most if not all the OT."
