I think he was sincere for the most part. I really don't know what the fuss is all about. If you believe the Bible he was pretty much dead on. Just read it. Many people that have an opinion haven't even read the whole thing. Nobody has all the answers but it comes down to if you believe the Bible as it is or you don't.

Just a second here — You actually, with a straight face and any shread of journalistic integrity, said this? "To the end he was a fundamentalist, affirming biblical inerrancy, Christ’s virgin birth, sacrificial atonement, bodily resurrection, and literal second coming."
I'll give you a pass on the inerrancy matter (and a partial pass on the "literal" second coming), but every other thing listed is commonly taught throughout the Christian church, Roman Catholic included. I liked Jerry Falwell, though I am no Baptist. His ministry carried a weight of integrity almost great as that of Billy Graham.
Fundamentalism has its warts, but comes under the broader tent of the evangelical movement. It would be nice just once to have a reporter get it right.
