Gay Marriage Opponents Lose Another One
By Jacqueline L. Salmon
Gay marriage opponents lost another one this week, when the District of Columbia began recognizing the marriages of same-sex couples performed in other jurisdictions. (Massachusetts this week also became the first state to sue the federal government on the issue, challenging the constitutionality of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as the union of a man and a woman.)
For a full overview of the issue, check out the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life's Web site, including the latest poll numbers, an overview of the debate and religious groups' official positions on gay marriage.
