There are so many arguments concerning religion. I believe this is because America has been embittered toward God because of the Media. In addition it has prevented it's children from knowing the truth about their christian heritage as Americans. In the past America was influenced by God because of the Media. I remember getting up early on Suday morning to watch Davie and Goliath all alone in my livingroom on Sunday mornings. It was a simpler time. Take a look at the confusion in our generation. There are so many issues and so much uneccesary expression that is being permitted. What good has come of taking the God our founding fathers trusted and believed in and raking him through the mudd. I beleive we must set a standard in this country that means American. If you go to another country they have traditions and a lifestyle that represents their country and their people. We allow people to come into this country by the droves and they can use our constitution to do anything they want to this country. Then this country is made to feel guilty if they don't honor everything that people group believes in and wants to do. Including building Mosques in a christian nation. Including building churches of Satan. Including every tradition known to mankind. We have compromised one standard for many standards. And I still beleive a house divided against itself cannot stand. Whether that is the United States house or your own house it still applies. Hitler, who some of us remember, over all had a simple plan. First and foremost was to rid society of any religious influence. Haven't all dictators been that way. Then to infiltrate the society with a single belief and above all to teach that way of life to the children. Why aren't we teaching classes in our Universities and calling them how to recognize the signs of a rising dictatorship. Well now the chrisitan religion is being treated as if it were a dictatorship in this country that needs to be taken down. Funny thing is. Who is the dictator. God whom we can't see? He is not a man. Wherever he has been honored though he has done nothing but promote and reinforce good and restoration of order. If it is a dictatorship then it is a good one. It established our country and has made it stand for years and years. It has allowed us to live without war on our soil except for during the civil war when "our country was divided against itself" again and could not stand in that state until order was restored. Now though as you can see we have many fires burning, many wars within our own walls. Burn holes in our fabric. If young people want to continue to enjoy the lifestyle they so take for granted then they need a serious wake up call from those that still believe in the traditional American way. If not, we may see this country fall into the hands of radical Islam and those that will stand up and fight to take our land for their own use. This would be a great tragedy for America. This would be the fall of the greatest country in world history. It is all in the hands of our young generations and will be consequence of what we continue to allow them to believe.

Anon,
I voted for a repub once in my life...Reagan the first time he ran. I learned my lesson.
What was wrong that Thompson voted for?
Privitizing Social Security.
Said-Market does more for freedom & prosperity than planners. (Jun 2007)
said-Protectionist trade policies are defensive & defeatist. (May 2007)
Voted YES on renewing 'fast track' presidential trade authority. (Nov 1997)
Strongly Opposes
Sexual orientation protected by civil rights laws
says-Solar system is warming, not earth.
says-YES on defunding renewable and solar energy:
NO on ending discussion of CAFE fuel efficiency standards:
YES on preserving budget for ANWR oil drilling:
YES on confirming Gale Norton as Secretary of Interior:
YES on terminating CAFE standards within 15 months.
....etc.
And the Whole World knew his record...oh really?
As for whom I am voteing for..I only know one thing..it will be for a Dem. I like them all...except for Gravel, he is a bit of a nut case. I am very much likeing Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Biden...Which ever makes the Primary I will vote for in the General. I am leaning towards Obama.
As far as what Democrates have done in the last 100 years? Everything that makes us a progressive country. Can you imagine if we had business running things for the last 100 years? Can you imagine if there were no unions to fight for workers rights? Or to end child labor, or for Social Security so that our elders can have a decent living in their golden years, or for equal rights for all people...the voter rights act that the repubs did not want to renew...etc.
"My D Party" are not the hypocrites that the Repubs are. We may not be perfect...goodness no one is...But the failings are human. It really does not bother me so much that there are gay in the closet reps. It is hard to come out when you are facing discriminated agaisnst. Repubs belong to a party that discriminates against gays and wants it to be legislated into the constitution...BUT those closeted repubs vote Against equal rights for those just like themselves but who are honest enough to be out.
While they are spewing Family Values they are married to their third wives. While they are pointing at Clinton for getting a BJ from an adult they are sniffing around young teens. While they spent 52 million on investigating only Whitewater...(and found nothing) this president threatens to veto adding more qualified kids for healthcare and gives the wealthiest few billions in tax cuts.
While Bush lied us into Iraq, when Clinton bombed Iraq the repubs called it Wag the Dog. While Clinton Arrested the people responcible for the first Tower attack in 93...they are in prison...Bin Laden is sending taped critiques of our politics.
Tell me what has the rethugs done in the last 6 years? What bills have been passed that helps the citizens of the nation? It's not a few of the members...there are always boobs..its the ideology of the Republicans that I find repulsive.

As a mostly liberal, gay Christian minister, I have found myself somewhat open to Thompson as a candidate simply because he seems to speak with some integrity even when he has a position that I am deeply opposed to. Now to find out his wife is a UCC member makes me even more willing to give him a listen.
Bush & co. used the rightwing evangelical vote not out of principle (Bush was moderate on social issues as Texas governor) but simply because of electoral mathematics. He cynically divided the country, offered up same-sex couples as scapegoats for all social ills, all for a powergrab. At the end of these eight years, the evangelical vote will find it gained little for their allegiance to Bush.
I will likely vote for the Democratic nominee, but I will also keep an open mind as to who will be the best leader and will be willing to do what's best for ALL the people, not just their narrow constituencies.

And yet they remain ignorant...
This issue has no place in politics, as it is one of the most immoral, unethical and corrupt of venues (save the IRS)in America. Separation of Church and State means just that.
We have a man in office who claims to be a devout Christian-(see belief in and of a "Jewish" man’s teachings), yet I have seen and heard evidence to the contrary since the day he took office....had the nerve to try and hype the ever unpopular...Intelligent Design and have it taught in schools where No Child Left Behind equates to "your child can't pass this test (because he hasn't learned anything in 12 years) so instead of teaching them we're closing your school", And the meek shall inherit the Earth...WTF?!?!?
If the American people had any common sense and could make intelligent decisions without being afraid or having to be led or match the popular opinion, we would boycott all elections and tax filings until these fools get it right. Even better, “we the people” should step up and bring this country and its government back to its original foundation and purpose. Unfortunately, this administration has all but made those a joke and pissed on our forefathers’ graves, accomplishments and core beliefs.
Using religion actually cheapens the whole practice. How can so many candidates profess to be "men of God" when they keep getting caught with a hand in the proverbial cookie jar? They are proven to be closeted homosexuals yet are married with children, a “gay” pedophile appointed to oversee our tasty young Senate Pages, drug addicts and drunks, embezzlers, philanderers and war-mongers and WE elected them to run this moral, upstanding population.
All these men are making it easier for the Jerry Farwells, Pat Robinsons and any other “Religious Right” nut jobs to cloud America’s judgment and incite fear and hatred amongst ourselves and toward those who we used to welcome to this country with open arms under the “freedom of…” , and start one of the biggest racial and religious wars that US history and the Bush clan will inevitably deny.
This crop has even made me question the whole idea of religion and a higher power. Why haven’t the “powers that be” stopped this sin and debauchery yet?
No offense Mr. Thompson, but we’ll trust and respect you more if you stick with Law & Order...the TV show.

I'm a Democrat and I am seriously considering voting for Fred Thoimpson. First, every policy he has propoed is moderate. Second, I honestly believe he has the best interests of the counrty at heart, before his own self interests, and Third he is not Hillary Clinton. I'm an engineer, a 60 year old engineer who has been laid off three times since 2001, in every case being replaced by an Indian H1-B guest worker. In every one of those cases, that worker was provided by a firm that Hillary and Bill Clinton are part owners of or by firms that they receive monitary payments from. Hillary Clinton is anti-worker, she and Senatr Kennedy have proposed to remove all limtis from every kind of guest worker visa, something that will cost millions more Amercian's THEIR.....**YOUR**.....job! As the economy sours into 2008, I trust that the vast majority of voters will feel precisely as I do and will either vote for Fred Thompson or for a third party candidate.

Why does Thompson have to be the one to gain the votes of pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage Democrats?
Why shouldn’t it be Obama who has to gain the votes of pro-life, anti-gay marriage Republicans?
The Republicans have candidates that are pro-life and pro-abortion, while the Demos only have pro-abortion candidates. Which of the two parties (and its candidates) is really the trapped one?

There won't be any Democrats crossing party lines for anyone - period. Not after eight years of Bush. Furthermore, the Reagan Democrats, typically northern ethnic blue-collar workers, never returned to the Democratic fold. That kind of Democrat - economically liberal but intolerant of minorities and tending toward jingoism - doesn't exist any longer.

As the evangelicals seem to be saying, we are in the end times. However, which times are ending is a different question.
The era where right-wing politicians could pander to the christian right and actually expect to win power is ending, or has already ended. Certainly rove and his bunch took them for granted, made suckers of all of them. It takes a great deal of gullibility to swallow all that and not feel offended.
Sure, they won't vote for the democrats, but will they vote for Fred?
Mitt Romney is a "weird" christian, I've heard some say mormonism isn't even christianity. I wouldn't know, you wouldn't ask an atheist what is and isn't christianity anyway.
Giulliani seems to be doing surprisingly well, despite his "horrible liberal" social views, such as being pro-choice and to some extent pro-gay-rights. Why are so many evangelicals willing to support Rudy at this time? Are their deepest hatreds of liberal ideas, their fondest principles really just opinions that can change when the politics suits them?
As a true independent I can honestly say the democrat field sickens me, I have no respect for any of them. But I am almost trembling with glee at the idea that the right-wing christian nutjobs have lost their place on the stage.

This article really doesn't give much credit for the intelligence of those voting "D" in '08. True, when in 2004 we found out the lie in Iraq, had huge deficit spending and many other serious issues people voting "R" still had the courage to give gay-bashing the priority to appease an angry God. But I'm going to give the "D" voter a little bit more credit for keeping priority. People are sick of hypocrites and "performers", but there are bigger problems in the world.
Is Guiliani going to campaign on starting WAR with the whole world and then turn some "D" voters because he's pro-choice and pro-civil-union? Is Fred Thompson going to do so by attending services at our "liberal" churches? Maybe, but I seriously hope as a majority we are not that petty.

Please get the details right: you insinuate that Thompson seeks constitutional amendments banning abortion and Gay marriage. This is exactly opposite of what Thompson has repeatedly said. What Thompson supports is: Overturing Roe to allow the States to regulate abortion--i.e. get the Federal government out of the debatet; a constitutional amendment altering the "full faith and credit" provisions so that States do not have to recognize gay marriages that are allowed in other states.
None of this necessarily makes him more palatable to borderline Democrats, but it is a different opinion that what you insinuated.

I am not even sure where Thompson Republicans are coming from. I doubt any Democrats will support Rudy either.
