   <description>California&apos;s first lady, Maria Shriver, considers herself &quot;a Catholic in good standing,&quot; but in an interview with On Faith, said that she disagrees with the church&apos;s teachings on divorce, homosexuality and abortion rights. On abortion, she said &quot;I often talk to my daughters and at my dinner table about the difference between being pro-abortion versus pro-choice. . . I believe that that choice should be left to a woman.&quot; But Shriver does look to Catholic teaching for inspiration and uses her position as first lady to promote women&apos;s empowerment. &quot;I believe in the compassion and justice of Jesus Christ, I believe in the social justice of the Catholic Church,&quot; Shriver added.
