My All-Time Favorite Book

My all time favorite book, apart from the Bible, is C. S. Lewis’ Mere Christianity.

Better known perhaps for the Narnia tales and other allegories, Lewis, the Oxford don, was the twentieth century’s premiere apologist for the Christian faith. Mere Christianity was a compilation of three radio broadcasts by Lewis during World War II. The broadcasts were credited by many with helping steady the nerves of the British people and reinforcing their faith.

The book is an enduring classic. Its effect on me was nothing less than life-changing. A friend gave it to me in the darkest days of Watergate and that, plus my friends’ witness, led to my conversion to Christ 35 years ago this summer. It is not only powerfully reasoned, it is written with Lewis’ characteristic verve and wit.
