"The fool has said in his heart 'There is no God.'" (Psalm 14:1). There is not much I can add to that, except to say that anyone calling himself/herself an atheist and still claiming to believe in God or a "universal spirit" is closer to being an agnostic than an atheist. Either way, same distinction (fool) and result (separation from a God who exists and has a plan for our lives).
