What Does Obama Really Believe?

I am less interested in whether Obama resigned from his church than I am in whether he resigned from the theological tenants of the church. He was a member for twenty years and it is not credible that he never heard remarks from which he now disassociates himself. Obama told Chicago Sun-Times columnist Cathleen Falsani in 2004 he believes there are many ways to God. Yet he calls himself a Christian. A Christian does not believe there are many ways to God, otherwise Jesus would not have come and suffered and died as He did (see John 14:6)

Does anyone believe that if Obama were not running for president he would have remained as a member of Trinity Church? This was a political act, not an act of theological conviction, and should be seen as such.

Tending our Earthly Vessels

The Bible teaches that our bodies are God's temple in which He lives when we exchange our old life for the new one God has for us in Jesus Christ. It also teaches we are not our own but have been bought and paid for at a price, the blood of Jesus Christ. Most people respect the property of others. Knowing our bodies were made by Him for temporary life on this Earth ought to encourage us to take care of them through exercise, eating right and not ingesting things that are bad for it. We read the manual for the proper care and maintenance of our cars. We can also read the "manual" for the proper care of our bodies.

"My Utmost for His Highest"

Other than the Bible, Oswald Chambers' "My Utmost for His Highest" has influenced me more than any other book. I have read it nearly every day since my wife gave it to me in 1974. It has encouraged, taught, humbled and given me insights into myself. That it remains one of the world's most popular devotional books more than ninety years after Chambers' death at a relatively young age, says much about the enduring and multi-generational power of this small book with a giant reach.
