On Thanksgiving we are asked to thank God but freedom includes the right not to thank Him.

Thanksgiving and the giving thereof can be as diverse as our citizenry. While the day holds special thanks from me to my God, It also can mean a time for appreciation of friends and family, and for not taking our freedoms and privileges for granted (Give thanksgiving to a soldier). Most who are truly appreciative of something usually want to share it with others, be they friends or strangers. To witness true thanksgiving, try serving a meal at a local shelter. You'll be overrun with sincere yet humble "thank you's". Be thankful that as you read this, your eyes still see and your lungs might still draw another breath. Be thankful that you are educated enough to understand how to use a computer, which you were able to buy with your own money. We are truly blessed and live like kings and queens compared to many millions in the world. So, we offer thanksgiving for a multitude of reasons, religious or otherwise, but it's all extraordinarily good stuff.

I give thanks for this web site because it does give a person on faith in Jesus Chirst an opportunity to expess themselves. I thank God for Thanksgiving because it does reflect our desire to give thanks to our Creator for his many blessings. Thanks to Cal Thomas for his insightful presentation of the facts concerning our Presidents' many comments. These are facts that can not be refuted.

Cacorn!
Today I give thanks for people like you... Intelligent, worthy people who know what it is like to live in places that might not have the tremendous riches, resources and liberties we enjoy and often take for granted in the United States.
Many of our people have become very spoiled, jaded and ungrateful. I pray that for just one moment, they can see America through your eyes, as a beacon of hope and opportunity for those who honestly step up to the plate and reach out for it.
I am a "minority" American - supposedly of the classes that cannot excel in our land. And yet, I stand before you today with many successes under my belt. I have so many reasons to be thankful!
Yes, I'm grateful for this land. I'm grateful for its many blessings and for the wisdom and foresight of our forefathers. I am most grateful to God, for placing me here, in this place, at this time.
And I pray that our sons and daughters, sisters, brothers, etc., serving our nation in foreign lands, will have a blessed day, and return home safely soon! My only child, my son, is a member of those armed forces. Thankfully, he is with family today.

Ah, Thanksgiving. My family and I arrived here from the Philippines 13 years ago, and ever since then, I have had tremendous opportunities to absorb the history of the greatest global superpower to have ever existed. What other country in history has ever actually designed from the start a system to ameliorate and rectify any and all imperfections that its founders recognized within the society of their time? I've taken practically to heart the premise that the United States Constitution was established NOT to create a PERFECT Union, but to create and form "a MORE perfect Union."
Who initiated the Monroe Doctrine to stave off European expansionism? President James Monroe and Secretary of State John Quincy Adams. Who led the way in emancipating enslaved blacks and ending slavery? President Abraham Lincoln in America and William Wilberforce in the British Empire. Who, by the free grace of Almighty God, stopped Adolf Hitler's Holocaust before the Jews were wiped out? Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Winston Churchill. Who inspired the United States to reach for the stars with its space program? John F. Kennedy. Who sounded the death knell for the Soviet Union by funding the Strategic Defense Initiative and the Polish Solidarity and demanding that Mikhail Gorbachev tear down the Berlin Wall? President Ronald W. Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher -- to my persuasion, the greatest American President, Pope, and British Prime Minister in contemporary history. Who inspired the creation of the Presidential Prayer Team, an ecumenical organization with the purpose of praying for divine protection and inspiration for our temporal authorities right here? Current President George Walker Bush. Who spearheaded global operational assistance to Indonesia and the rest of South Asia in the wake of the Great Tsunami of 2004? Former Presidents George Herbert Walker Bush and William Jefferson Clinton and the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Battle Group. For all these Anglo-American contributions to form a more perfect world under the aegis and example of the Lord Jesus Christ, I give profuse thanks to the Sovereign Creator and King of Divine Providence. (My basic political orientation is such that I would be in the "free trade/one-man, one-woman marriage/border security first, separate from illegal immigration/democratization of Iran, North Korea, and maybe even China" category.)

I'm not a fan of Cal Thomas. The reason is he has the habit of writing all of his columns from a religious viewpoint. I do not believe he has a PHD in Theology or DD in Religious Studies. Therefore why must every one except his religious views as the Divine word.

Candide, while I ordinarily would be pleased to disagree with most things Cal Thomas says, being quite liberal myself, I find it difficult to understand what you find offensive in this post. The quotes from Washington and Lincoln take up most of the space. The rest is mere statement of fact, barring the last line which is liberal enough! The lack of argument is probably why no one else bothered to post a comment....

Nothing Cal Thomas says is ever worth the print. He's just an evangelical blowhard.
