Regardless whether or not you believe in any deity, it is a salient argument to put forward that the basic American rights come NOT from the government, but from the Creator.
DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
One of the amendments that gets the least attention is the ninth:
IX. The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.
This is where our rights are most trampled upon by the government. Any rights not granted or denied by the Constitution remain the rights of the people. Laws are constantly passed by the legislature or by presidential executive order (an aberration and abortion) that deny us these rights vested to us by the Constitution.
The Constitution of the United States is a legal document of federalist government. It was preceded by the Articles of Confederation, an anti-federalist government, subsequently superceded. It was the Articles of Confederation that the southern states reverted to, which led to the civil war. Federalism triumphed.
Nonetheless, to establish any government that extinguishes or denies the Spirit of the Declaration of Independence is contrary to the will of the founding fathers and the peoples of the United States.

Out of curiosity what rights do you believe I would terminate?
Legal gay liasons? I have no problems with civil unions just with calling such a marriage which is a religious term.
Abortion? Killing human beings without due process strikes me as a bad idea sorry if that irritates you.

How about defining “narrow interpretations of God’s standards.” In my view, the Constitution has already been amended and not by the Amendment process but by a rogue Court that has legalized murder, redefined humanity, impinged our inalienable rights, curtailed political speech, jettisoned the Declaration and Bill of Rights and is about to redefine Marriage. I believe that is what Gov. Huckabee is referring to when he says we must restore God’s standards.
It is the Court who has violated the Constitution. Are you equally concerned? The Court has circumscribed the Amendment Process in the Constitution by writing law instead of interpreting law. They have witlessly created rights not in existence on the bases of a mystical penumbra that has disposed of precedence and made immorality a Constitutional right.
In Roe v. Wade, the Court legalized murder. Moreover, the Court redefined human nature. Further, it created a medical marvel to justify its buffoonery. Namely, they created new creatures never know to medical science.
Blackmon’s Trimester Theory claimed there existed beings that were 1/3rd and 2/3rds human, and witlessly concluded that a woman was never pregnant with child but with a “thing.” The child was never human until it was completely free from the mother, thus justifying Partial Birth Abortion (PBA). The Court justified murder and impugned the inviolable right to life.
PBA is when a child, in the birth canal, is being born and a butcher, called a doctor, plunges a surgical scissors into the back of a baby’s skull and sucks out its brains.
While the ban on PBA was being argued in the Court, the Four Apocalypse Justices (Stephens, Souter, Ginsberg, and Brayer) were asking how far out of the birth canal must the child be to perform such atrocities. That the baby was a human being didn’t impress these insensitive blind justices.
The Court majority has placed the Civil Law over the Natural Moral Law and usurped the authority of God. That’s already been tried for centuries by the various forms of Communism, Fascism, Polytheism, Atheism, Pantheism, and Agnosticism. The conclusions of their folly have all been violent and tragic.
In addition, the Court is on the verge of redefining the Institute of Marriage. Marriage is the guardian of the family and the child. The family’s stability is a vital concern for the social order and the prodigy of the State.
Today, Europe is in a negative growth rate. Labor problems have become so severe in France that France has had to import Muslims to fill the country’s labor shortage that were caused by homosexuality, contraception and abortion. The problem is so sever in France that they are offering incentives for women to bear children. America is on the precipice of becoming like Europe, after it has legally murdered over 48 million unborn.
Moreover, the Court removed from the public square the basic moral foundations of Civil Law, the Ten Commandments. In "John Geddes Lawrence and Tyron Garner V. Texas”, the Four Apocalypse Justices signed on to Stephens’ incredulous insane conclusion that traditional moral values served no legitimate interest to the State.
JUSTICE SCALIA in DISSENT:
“State laws against bigamy, same-sex marriage, adult incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery; fornication, bestiality, and obscenity are likewise sustainable only in light of Bowers’ validation of laws based on moral choices.
"Every single one of these laws is called into question by today’s decision; the Court makes no effort to cabin the scope of its decision to exclude them from its holding. See ante, at 11 (noting, “An emerging awareness that liberty gives substantial protection to adult persons in deciding how to conduct their private lives in matters pertaining to sex” (emphasis added)).
"The impossibility of distinguishing homosexuality from other traditional “moral” offenses is precisely why Bowers rejected the rational-basis challenge.
"Stevens’ declaration in his Bowers dissent, wrote that “the fact that the governing majority in a State has traditionally viewed a particular practice as immoral is not a sufficient reason for upholding a law prohibiting the practice,” ante, at 17.
"This effectively decrees the End of All Moral Legislation. If, as the court asserts, the Promotion of Majoritarian Sexual Morality Is Not Even a Legitimate State Interest, none of the above mentioned laws (bigamy, same-sex marriage, incest, prostitution, masturbation, adultery; fornication, bestiality, and obscenity) can survive a rational-basis review.
“Bowers concluded, 'The law 'is constantly based on notions of morality, and if all laws representing essentially moral choices are to be invalidated under the Due Process Clause, the courts will be very busy indeed.' 478 U. S."
It is undeniable that to violate the Natural Moral Law is a harbinger for the collapse of our nation's vitality and social order. It’s been said; the epitaph on the tombstone at the death of our nation will read Roe v. Wade.
Huckabee echoes a reality that without a reliance on the providence of God and the proscribing of God's Natural Moral Laws, a nation will become a totalitarian nation as have its predecessors who have ventured to choose the same denials of God’s Natural Moral Law that are embedded in the Declaration and Bill of Rights and the Court is in denial of.

Whoa, hold on there. I cannot speak for GaryD, but then I doubt you can either. GaryD is just saying that there is nothing un-Constitutional or un-American about what Huckabee is saying he wants to do.
In fact, altering the Constitution is a very American thing to do (although it is not an easy thing to do). The founding fathers realized the country would change and the views and needs of the populace would change as well. They could have set the rule of law in stone, but then we probably would have scrapped the Constitution and started from scratch several times since then.
If enough people truly want to amend the Constitution like Huckabee does, then it can and will happen.
Calling GaryD a bigot (or implying that he is one) is not only reactionary, but ignorant and rude.

The Constitution was amended via one package of 10 amendments prior to it being submitted for ratification. Every single element in the Bill of Rights gives rights, not one takes them away. It is you who support elimination of rights for certain American citizens based solely on their status. You may be a good Christian but you are not much of an American. You have set out to deliberately harm my family, my brother and my daughter are homosexual - that makes you my enemy. It is that simple. Bigotry is bigotry and the fact that it's based on your religion doesn't make it any less bigotry.

I know exactly how Nancy feels. I thought the invasion of Iraq was trumped up from the beginning -- so, of course, I was labeled a "traitor" then and a "surrender monkey" now by the saber-rattling crowd. (In turn, I label them "dim-witted" when I'm being kind.) Huckabee's rhetoric about amending our secular Constitution to reflect his religious philosophy would be of little concern if there were not so many Americans who are apt to take up this cause because they believe another trumped up cry -- that there is a "war against Christmas and Christianity" going on in the USA. Let's try this instead: You go to your church; and I won't. No harm. No foul.

As one of those millions who put no stock in religion, I have spent the last few years wondering when the pogroms will begin. I fear that if we elect a Mike Huckabee we will open the door for a new effort to demonize groups of people. I have already been the "traitor" since I did not and do not support the Iraq war. Now I can be the demon since I do not promote organized religion in government. I thought our president was to be the representative of all the people, not just the ones who agree with his world view or religion. The last seven years have proved me wrong.

You are exactly right, Rev. Gaddy.
But let's take this a step farther. Once you open the door to tampering with the Constitution or any other founding documents in a religious sense, you open the door wide for future Administrators to do the same.
Just imagine we could end up with a whole variety of Constitutions, one for christians, one for muslims, one for jews, one for pagans, and the list goes on endlessly.
May then everybody will be happy and we will have accomplished exactly nothing. The thought of a man like Huckabee in office is nothing short of scary.
