Ignorance is not bliss, nor does it make you know anything more if you do know a little bit about something.

In truthfulness we, the muslims-- Islam, believe in Isa/ Jesus as you christians call him. But I will not sugar coat it by saying we believe he is divine or reverie him as soully being divine. We take Jesus as a prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and let that be known. The same way we take Prophet Muhammed (PHUB), Moses, Aaron, Solomon, Zakariah, Abraham (PHUT), and the others as prophets. There is no real difference amongst them; they were all given the same message to worship God (Allah in arabic, which means god), and God alone. They were each given signs. Moses with the ability to part the sea, Solomon to talk to the animals, Jesus with capability to bring back the dead or heal the sick, Muhammed to the Angels. And they were all tested in their faith differently. Jonas being swallowed by the whale, Jacob through sickness and the lose of his sons, Joesph through the separation of his family and beauty, Jesus through the disbelief from the people he was sent to (Which you read the bible explains he was sent to the Jews, not all of mankind), Muhammed through exoneration and no sons.

We do not have to get a point, just as you do not get our point. This is something we believe in and are supposed to believe in as it is within the Qu'ran.

"Say (meaning the muslims, who are considered the believers within Islam), Oh you Kaferuns--disbelievers, You will not believe as I believe. And I will not believe as you believe..." --Suratul Kaferoon, verse 1-3.

And thus we shall not. Yes we take the bible as a book, just as we take the Torah( the book of the jews) as a book, but we believe in the orginal text, not the refound ones.

For the one who thinks he knows the Qu'ran so well, and that we doom all disbelievers as being sent to hell. In the Qu'ran suratal Baqarah-- There are several verses which talk about the priest who will go to heaven, for being monotheist and believing in the oneness of god-- alone I repeat. We don't condemn everyone, for we do not have that capability-- the Qu'ran repeats this many times in several different surahs, but you would have to have memorized them to know this or see this.

Again, as I said, you can not fight something or talk about if your argument is mostly ignorant, and you yourself have never studied islam.

You are only fighting with the same ignorance you speak about, by hear-say, in the same tongue you are taught with, and with the adequate-- at best--based knowledge you do have on the subject. You can not fight islam with, nor the Qu'ran, with the Qu'ran, because there are too many other things you have not read within it, then which text did you read in translation. And also you must remember the fact that you are reading "a Translation" not the original text it was written in...

They have often sought through much prayer and ascetic living the spiritual beauties of Faith, all religious can learn from the Sufis.Many profound Christian writers have spoken fondly of Sufi poets and writers. Christian clergy crossing all denominations have commented favorably of Sufism as a whole, as being the Mystical avenue into spiritual revelation. More Muslims should read the Sufis, they would be more understanding of the Christian expression of individual salvation and revelation. However many Muslims are as anti-Sufi as they are anti-Christian. Muslims believe strongly in submitting their will to Allah(GOD). They as the Jews of old who were obsessed with the canonical LAW lacked the whole picture given them in scripture to allow God(to put His Law into their hearts by the Spirit) which means literally that God empowers the believer to live the letter of the Law, because the Lord gives the enabling strength to fulfill the demands of the Law by the Spirit. We in our own selves can never live righteously and to discipline our walk in the Law. The Law shows us how inept we are to follow it totally.God wants us to see our own frailities so that we can in fact see His Glory, and seek His purification.Even the prophet Isaiah wrote about the Servant who would cleanse man from their transgressions. Jeremiah wrote about the heart being wicked, and man reasoning with God to be made whole. The prophets knew that God's cleansing power was Whiter than Snow, and made as wool.Our sins would be relinquished and grounded into the dust of forgetfulness. Islam naturally teaches that Muhammad is the seal of the prophets, but the truth is they missed Jesus in the process. To Meet a Savior who washes us whiter than snow, and return to a cold relationship with God, never knowing if we are truly forgiven or not makes no sense. Believers after the Apostolic age found great satisfaction in the power of the Gospel message. They were made the friends of Jesus through repentance and forgiveness of sins, they understood the whole reason for the cross, death and resurrection of Jesus. Centuries later a man named Muhammad claims that is all wrong and he has the final story. The Qu'ran although stating that Allah is all-knowing and all-compassionate, never really addresses the age old human condition of malady;SIN, the wickedness of the heart, the seduction of Satan and so on. The Bible mentions with clarity both the condition of Sin, its travesty, and also the Cure. Now Muhammad claims that the Cure is wrong and the Christians have exceeded the Limits. How can a Muslim truly know what the Injeel is if they are told that the Book is full of deceptions and lies? Isa is not a reality in the Qu'ran, because his story is adapted from the lies of the New Testament. The unity Jesus may offer in the three monotheistic religions, is truly clouded,however it is not because the Jews and Christians will not accept the Isa of the Qu'ran, but rather the Muslims will never accept the Isa of the Book the Bible.We already see Him as a prophet, a messenger,a submitted Servant, the son of Mary in the virgin birth, and the one who initiated change in the attitude of the Jews,toward GOD.We can and are able to separate the divine from the Fleshly mission of Jesus. We see Jesus as a reformer, a fund-raiser,political activist, a humanitarian, and a peace-maker.More so, we see Jesus as the fulfillment of the LAW.Jesus has taught us how to submit to God, as I am sure Muslims find that hard to believe. You probably are wondering why I said fund-raiser? Simply Jesus spoke much about money, and man's inability to use it wisely. He did encourage his followers to give with great enthusiasm, without complaining to increase the kingdom of God. I found the article by Dr. Ibn Khaldun both misleading and insulting to Christians. For someone who is living in the West for such long time and who is unable to grasp the basic concepts of Christianity is shocking. To quote someone or some book of 1400 years olds which is filled with confusion and misunderstanding of Christian faith tells you volumes about the future of interfaith and multicultural which include Muslims in the West.
Mohamed did NOT even got Jesus name right in his Quarn by calling Him Isa instead of his real name in Arabic which is Yassoa.
Islam did not save Mohammed from controlling his passion for power and control over the none-believers, so why should any one believe him or his god.
Mohamed utters blasphemy on the Son of God and on all Christians and Jews. Even his greatest hero Abraham was called Hanifa “Muslim” (not a Jew or a Christian), while if he had know Syrian, he would have realized that he called Abraham a pagan.
As much you insult Christ with your ignorant of its teaching, you also showed ignorance of the Islam because you could not understand its pagan root of worshiping towards a stone in the middle of an ancient idol temple called Mecca.

Akbar Ahmed is absolutely right: Jesus was a unifying force just as Mohammed and Buddha were. Their message was universal oneness as opposed to the tribalism that leads to wars and is expressed by many who have commented here. Unfortunately, because our tribalism served us for so long it has become so deeply entrenched we can only distort the messages of these great teachers. In an era of globalisation where we are all closely juxtaposed and inter-connected, we desperately need to properly understand these ancient teachings in order to transcend our now dangerous atavistic tribal instincts.

All that stuff about Christ in the quran is what Mohammad heard from nestorian christians who lived around arabia. Nestorian believed the true christ was not killed but a lookalike was killed in his place and the same can be found in the quran. Christ and other jewish prophets are included to make Mohammed look legitimate, in reality he is the profit of Satan.

Sorry to say so, but Big Bang is right. It's lip service. Saying PBUH after someone's name ... wow, great form of respect. How about actually obeying him? Wouldn't that be a little more respectful? So how do you obey Jesus? Well, you could do what Mohammed said to do--test everything by the Bible. If Muslims actually did that, they'd see that a lot of what they've been told by the imams (sorry, that's a fact too, most Muslims don't read the Qur'an for themselves) flies in the face of the Bible. And none of this "the Bible has been corrupted" rot. It's exactly the same as it was in Mohammed's time, so why was he telling people to test his teachings against it if it were already corrupted? I have yet to hear a coherent response from anyone on that point.

Obviously, Akbar Ahmed is a good disciple in implementing his prophet Muhammad’s survival tactic of misrepresenting Islam as a peaceful and tolerant religion, especially in times when the enemy is in the upper hand (as Akbar Ahmed is now in the United States). This all-too-well-known treacherous tactic is also manifested in Akbar Ahmed’s lip-service that “Jesus is considered a great prophet by Muslims. Indeed Jesus is a focal point in the Quran. He is mentioned more often in the Quran than even the Prophet Muhammad. The Prophet himself said that there is no one closer to Jesus in love and reverence than him.”

To prove that this is just a lip-service to deceive his the enemy, let us see what the overwhelming parts of the Quran really teach about Jesus and Christianity, such as:

“And the Jews say, ‘Ezra is the son of ALLAH,’ and the Christians say, ‘the Messiah is the son of ALLAH;’ that is what they say with their mouths. They only imitate the saying of those who disbelieved (kafaroo) before them. ALLAH's curse be on them! How they are turned away. They have taken their priest and their monks for lords besides ALLAH. And so have they taken the Messiah, son of Mary. And they were not commanded but to worship the One God. There is no God but HE. Holy is HE far above what they associate (yushrikoona) with Him! They seek to extinguish the light of ALLAH with their mouths; but ALLAH refuses but to perfect HIS light, though the disbelievers (al-kafiroona) may resent it. HE it is Who has sent HIS Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth, that HE may make it prevail over every other religion, even though the idolaters (al-mushrikoona) may resent it.” Surah 9:28-33

Akbar Ahmed certainly would not be able to deny that we, Christians, have been unambiguously defined by Muhammad as UNBELIEVERS that should be punished, since this is what the Quran says:

"Unbelievers are those who say: 'God is one of three.' There is but one God. If they do not desist from so saying, those of them that disbelieve shall be sternly punished." (Surah 5:73)

In many parts of the world today, especially in third-world countries where the western or Christian civilization has not been firmly established, the Muslims are fighting vigorously and violently a (further) spread of Christianity by relentlessly attacking the main pillars of the Christian faith, i.e., the Trinity essence of God and that Jesus is the Son of God (see Surah 9:28-33 cited above). Whereas in the United States and Europe, where Christianity is in the upper hand (still!), the Muslims keep using Muhammad’s treacherous lip-service of praising Jesus, even seeing in Jesus “a great potential source of unity between the Abrahamic faiths.” Why is this tactic treacherous and such uttering just a lip-service? Simply because the Muslims HOPE that Christians would not know what is truly taught by the Quran, and what the Muslim community really thinks about Jesus. To better reveal Akbar Ahmed’s falsehood, I recommend all Christians to read and study the al Quran themselves, instead of simply believing in false and treacherous interpretation uttered by their harbingers like Akbar Ahmed. Only by studying the Quran ourselves would we see the real truth that Jesus is a (great) potential of DIVISION between the Abrahamic faiths, i.e., by finding out that Jesus is one of the main issues which distinguish the Jewish, the Christian and the Islam religions one from another.

The only great potential for unity among widely differing faiths in the world is REASON, since reason is the only means of communications that is the same for all human beings.

there was a woman who dressed in islamic fashion- prayed on time 5 times a day and to all outward appearances seemed to be the perfect muslim- but she had a cat that she kept tied to a post and did not even allow it to find food or drink for itself- so the cat died. Then the woman died. She went to hell.

At this point you must know that proving the existence of God is irrelevant. It's our perception of God that includes all the attributes of Devils that counts. While I agree this may help to unite some Christians and Muslims -- it really does nothing to help build understand for either with Jews.

In some cases the view of Jesus will also deepen the divide between Christians and Muslims. If someone really believes that Jesus is THE WAY and everything else is false -- there is no way to build bridges. The only option is for everyone to convert to Christianity.

You may have explained it with a fact unknown to most Americans, Jesus is a star of a sorts in the Quran. If not explained then at least Jesus puts all belidgerants in the same ball park, the Bible, the common thread that unites. The same thing is true for Mormons and known by most Americans, their God comes from the Bible. Does Jesus unite or divide?

Is the Jesus God or prophet a God or prophet of peace or conflict? Perhaps the identification of Jesus in the written in stone historical record will help us decide.
