THE QUESTION

Biden and Palin

What would you ask vice presidential candidates Joe Biden and Sarah Palin about their religious beliefs and why?

FROM THE PANEL

Candidates Must Govern Americans of All Traditions

Will your religious views of non-Christians affect your governance of them? From a theological perspective, are you enjoined to actively proselytize to non-Christians, to prevent their communities from achieving equal footing?

Christianity, Faith and Religion in Politics

Most Americans are identified as Christians. Are you a Christian? Who is Jesus Christ to you?

No Jargon or Posturing, Please

I want to know what they really believe about the meaning of life.

Reason, Belief and What We Need to Know

The American people deserve to know a candidate's understanding of reason and belief.

Why Should We Trust You? Be Specific

The issue is trust. If this November we don't elect a President and Vice President whom we trust to actually tell us the truth and put the welfare of the whole country before crass political manipulation, I think we're toast.

No Faith Questions Unless Contradiction

If, however, in answering policy questions their answers seem to conflict with what have been their announced religious views, then that's fair game for questions -- as would be the case any time they took positions inconsistent with other positions.

Do They Love God Enough to Love All Others?

So, I really don't care about Palin's and Biden's religious beliefs. I do care, though, about what they think about what is the best way to help "the least of these" in this country and in this world.

Palin and Biden: Do Their Religious Beliefs Matter?

Taking "religious beliefs" to mean what gives a human life its deepest meaning, value, and purpose, I want to hear how Biden and Palin put into words what governs their lives.

Character Counts, Religious or Not

I see no evidence that President Bush, our most overtly religious president, had an administration free of corruption, greed and even torture, so I do not think the religion of the candidate counts for much, except in negative directions. I fear zealots of any stripe.

What Do Biden and Palin REALLY Believe and Where Does That Leave The Rest Of Us?

My questions for both Senator Biden and Governor Palin focus on how they balance religious traditions that would dictate every area of life, which each of their faiths would, and their obligation to respect people of all faiths, including those with no faith at all.

Will You Defend My Constitutional Rights?

Should you be elected, will you defend my Constitutional right to freedom of religion? Will you defend the rights of all Americans to worship as we please, whether we worship Jesus or Diana, Allah or the Virgin Mary, the Lord God as King or the Queen of Heaven?

Belief Not the Problem; Bigotry Not the Solution

It is not bigotry to reject a candidate because one is concerned about the political implications of their ideas, even their religious ideas, if those ideas are fairly examined.

How Does What You Believe Shape You?

Like democracy, belief in God is something that must be discovered through the intellect and the heart in a free society, not a world that forces an ideology on people.

Church-State Queries For The Goose And The Gander

Because Biden has a long record of votes on issues germane to the separation of church and state, I am more interested in Palin's answers. I'd like to find out whether she knows anything, other than what she has been told in extremist churches, about the secular side of American history.

None of My Business

Nixon was a Quaker. Kennedy was a Catholic. And what bearing, exactly, did their religious preference have on domestic or foreign policy?

Witchcraft and the White House

I'd like to see the moderator for the next debate ask Sarah Palin if she gained the governorship of Alaska by exorcising witches at the behest of an African minister who prayed over her.
