THE QUESTION

Saddleback Forum: Faith and Politics

At the Saddleback Church Forum, pastor Rick Warren began his interviews with John McCain and Barack Obama by saying: "We believe in separation of church and state, but not faith and politics." What's your response to that and to the forum?

“GOD AND MAN”

IRT:
[To deny one a Right to Life is to deny God’s will. God wills man to live by creating him, but the Abortionist and a mother deny her unborn child his life, and rebukes God’s will.]

“To rebuke god is to have power over him?”

ANS:
One can rebuke (used as meaning a sharp disapproval) in different ways. Hence, a child can rebuke his mother and father’s wishes but he receives the consequences, and therefore doesn’t have power over them. One can also rebuke another’s wishes because he does have power over them as the father and mother rebuke their child’s wishes. They have power over him and suffer no consequences.

The term is used in the first sense.

IRT:
"Either god is omnipotent- or not.
Your theology gives man a power over god."

ANS:
To the contrary, God has given the power to man to refuse to love Him and obey Him since God gave man freewill.

If man chooses not to obey the wishes of God, man suffers the consequences. The consequences are of God’s domain, the power to refuse is of man’s domain by virtue of his freewill given to man by God. However, man has no power to avoid the consequences, and therefore, has no power over God.

IRT:
“What is absent in your reasoning is that if god wills a baby not to be born- they are not.”

ANS:
A child is a gift from God. God can give the gift or withhold it, and sometimes He does for reasons unknown to man, because the ways of God are not always known by man.

IRT:
“There are babies that die at 1 day- 2 days- 3 weeks-people that die at 3,5,13,34,68. Who are you to tell people what god can and cannot accomplish? Who are you to limit god, and make man more powerful?”

ANS:
People die because of Adam's sin; God created man perfect. Adam screwed up everything.

I do not tell God anything, he tells man what to do through His Church of which He gives the powers to teach without error in matters of faith and morals. Hence, it is written:

Mt 16:19, Mt 18:18
"And I will give to thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven. And whatsoever thou shalt bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven."

Moreover, Jesus crowned His church with the gift of infallibility in that man might have complete certitude in the Church’s teachings. Thus Scriptures says this in Mt. 28:20 Mt.10; John 15: 26-27.

Mt. 28:20: "Teach and obey everything I have commanded you. And, surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Mt.10: "For it will not be YOU speaking but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you." John 15: 26-27 "When the counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, He will testify about me. And, you must also testify about me, who has been with me from the beginning.”

IRT:
You commit a heresy with your own bible by doing so.” according to the Bible, not one of us has the right to life."

ANS:
God said, “Go forth and multiply—Gen 2 cf.” Why would God say such if He weren’t giving man a Right to Life? Moreover, he said about little children:

Mrk. 9:42
“But he that shall scandalize one of these little ones that believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone should be hanged about his neck, and that he should be drowned in the depth of the sea," (also in Lu 17:2).

Hence, no other interpretation is possible but that man has a Right to Life that is given to him by God.

IRT;
[To deny one a Right to Life is to deny God’s will.]

“First you deny we have a right to life-
then argue that to deny a right to life is to deny god's will.”

ANS:
That is ridiculous. I said we have a Right to Life that is an inalienable right given to man by God and to deny man the Right to Life is to disobey God’s Natural and Moral Laws a.k.a. God's will.

IRT:
"If god wills the right to life-, why does the bible deny it? and why does the bible forbid suicide if it is out of our control?"

ANS:
Where does the Bible deny the Right to Life? Moreover, the Church God established on Earth defends the Right to Life and all its dignity, and His Church is infallible as just shown.

Suicide is against the Fifth Commandment, "Thou shalt not kill, viz. murder thy self." Since all life is given by God, by His authority, God can and does forbids murder. People out of their mind are not morally responsible.

IRT:
“Your reasoning is crazy from a Christian perspective, AND an atheist one.” That is quite a rare accomplishment.

ANS:
To the contrary, a "rare accomplishment" is your incomprehensible conclusion. So as the Irish say, “Smile and give your face a holiday, because God wills that you be happy and a smile is a sign of happiness.

CCNL - the Moral Majority became a political force to contend with through the efforts of the late, lamented Jerry Falwell and fellow fundamentalists back in the early 1970's....long before Bill's indiscretions. On the other hand, Bill's popularity actually increased after the impeachment hearings - something Newt, et al didn't bargain for.

Al Gore made a number of mis-steps and gaffs in his campaign, and one was marginalizing Bill Clinton ... the other was selecting Joe Lieberman as his running mate.

And then, the old, pre-global warming Al didn't really present well and couldn't tune up an audience like the new Al - smart though he was and is.

But in the end, it took the Supreme Court to defeat Al as we all recall - the rest is history.

Bill's libidenous peccadillos probably had little to do with Hillary's recent failure to convert her early and enviable position as the democratic frontrunner into a decisive victory. The new Bill is seemingly only a shadow of the old Bill, and that didn't help Hil like many expected.

On the other hand, I doubt if Hillary has completely 'thrown in the towel'. Hillary will be ready for 2012 should there be an opportunity .... Obama will be under considerable pressure to achieve more than would normally be expected of first-term presidents, whether fairly or otherwise. We sincerely hope he and Joe rise to the occasion.

“GOD AND MAN”

IRT:
"So god isn't omniscient? And she didn't know in advance, what was going to happen?"

ANS:
Oh, God is every bit Omniscient and He knows the past, present, and future, since he doesn't exists in time. However, God gave man a freewill that man may freely choose the Good who is God.

So God made man for eternal happiness not to die. ““And the Lord God had planted a paradise of pleasure from the beginning: wherein he placed man whom he had formed. (Gen 2: 8cf.)”

However, Adam had a change of mind. Satan, know as Lucifer the Light of Heaven, the greatest Creature God had created and also had a freewill; but, Satan as Adam, thought he was as great as God.

God made man from out of His Love for man, and crowned man with all the amenities necessary to be in Paradise with Him for all eternity.

God made Adam to His own image and likeness and gave him dominion over all the Universe that man might use the Universe to accomplish his final destination, eternal happiness with God (Gen. 1:26)

Hence, man longs for eternal happiness but can never find it in the world because the world is not eternal. Thus, says St Augustine, “Lord, you created us for yourself; our hearts are restless until they rest in you.”

However, what kind of love is there if man is forced to love God? God did not want that kind of love, a pseudo love, which would be no love at all. Thus, God gave man a freewill that man would come to Him by his own choice.

That’s what is meant when it is said, God did not plan for man to be in Hell but to be in Heaven. But, man had to choose God and those who didn’t and don’t end up in Hell, a place created for Satan and all who think they are their own God. So God does not send people to Hell, they send themselves.

Second, God has no Gender, a being with gender is a composite being and not an eternal being, but God is eternal as Aristotle shows in his demonstration of God’s existence from Motion.

God is Father in that He is the Creator of man and watches over man, assists man in his needs, and protects man, at man’s request, like a Father. Hence, there are multiple Scriptural quotes by Jesus:

Mt 5:16
“So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven,” and Mt 5:45 “That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven, who maketh His sun to rise upon the good, and bad, and raineth upon the just and the unjust.”

IRT:
“And man has that creative control, to manifest death into being?”

ANS:
The evidence is man dies. Man has the power to sin; he did and brought death down upon all humanity.

God in His Mercy and Justice has the power to discipline man for his transgressions; for God not to do so, God would be unjust, but God is Justice. For God to be unjust would be a contradiction. But God cannot contradict himself, for Truth cannot contradict Truth and God is Truth.

Now God is also Merciful, but to receive the Mercy of God, man must ask for it and be repentant with a firm purpose of amendment to sin no more.

If by Creation we mean something from nothing, then no one has that power but God. However, man, since he has freewill, he has the power to choose his destiny a.k.a. life in Heaven or death in Hell.

IRT:
“…it wasn't god's will or choice or creation?
Where did Adam find death to bring it into the world?"

ANS:
It was God’s Justice that disciplined Adam, but it was Adam who brought God’s Justice down upon him.

Thus, it is written in Gen. 3:17:
“And to Adam God said: ‘Because thou hast hearkened to the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee, that thou shouldst not eat, cursed is the earth in thy work: with labor and toil shalt thou eat thereof all the days of thy life.

“Because,” is the operative word. Adam’s sin, Original Sin brought death upon him and all humanity.

Hence, it is written:
“Thorns and thistles shall it bring forth to thee, and thou shalt eat the herbs of the earth. 19 In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread till thou return to the earth out of which thou wast taken: for dust thou art, and into dust thou shalt return—Gen. 2: 19.”

IRT:
Did god already create it as an option that Adam utilized?

ANS:
Yes, God gave Adam the option. Thus, God said “But of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat. For in what day so ever thou shalt eat of it, thou shalt die the death.—Gen 2 1cf.”

Eternal death or eternal punishment, or the denial of God’s love, already existed in Hell and with Satan. Adam chose to turn from God, and he sinned against God. Hence Adam forfeited all that God had gave him and planned for him.

“And the Lord God having formed out of the ground all the beasts of the earth, and all the fowls of the air, brought them to Adam to see what he would call them: for whatsoever Adam called any living creature the same is its name.” The option was Adam’s choice, not God’s choice.

O'Victoria, O'Vicotoria, O'Victoria,

Hmmm, now you are the resident theologian?? Strange since you cannot even come to grips with the flaws and errors of Islam.

Once again for your perusal of the flaws and errors of Islam:

Mohammed was an illiterate, womanizing, lust and greed-driven, warmongering, hallucinating Arab, who also had embellishing/hallucinating/ plagiarizing scribal biographers who not only added "angels" and flying chariots to the koran but also a militaristic agenda to support the plundering and looting of the lands of non-believers.

This agenda continues as shown by the assassination of Bhutto, the conduct of the seven Muslim doctors in the UK, the 9/11 terrorists, the 24/7 Sunni suicide/roadside/market/mosque bombers, the 24/7 Shiite suicide/roadside/market/ mosque bombers, the Islamic bombers of the trains in the UK and Spain, the Bali crazies, the Kenya crazies, the Pakistani “koranics”, the Palestine suicide bombers/rocketeers, the Lebanese nutcases, the Taliban nut jobs, and the Filipino “koranics”.

And who funds this muck and stench of terror? The warmongering, Islamic, Shiite terror and torture theocracy of Iran aka the Third Axis of Evil and also the Sunni "Wannabees" of Saudi Arabia.

Current crises:

The Sunni-Shiite blood feud and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder-

Blame Bill Clinton for the rise of the moral majority. His adulterous activities reminded all parents i.e. voters that the Ten Commandments are important rules for our leaders to follow. Al Gore and Hillary's chances to become president evaporated because of Bill's "out of pants" frolicking.

Henry James :

It was much more seemly when Presidents like Harry Truman and Eisenhower kept their private religious beliefs private.

It is quite unseemly, and ripe for exploitation of God and one's sanctimony, this current practice of forcing candidates to testify on the public stump what their relationship is with whatever they define as God (and it usually involves Jesus).

And watching Mccain have to pretend to be religious is positively painful

“A RIGHT TO LIFE?”

IRT:
“I think of the Savior's own words in response”: Thou child of Hell, why tempt ye Me?" Yes, it does say in our Constitution that we have an inalienable right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, but according to the Bible, not one of us has the right to life. In fact, through Adam and Eve, each of us has the right to death and judgment of our sins. Therefore, to attempt to legislate anyone's Right To Life makes that portion of the Constitution heresy.”

ANS:
If no one has a Right to Life, then do you justify murder? The Supreme Court justified it in "Roe."

Since you claim we have no inalienable right to live, can the State go around killing whom ever they wish, as they have in abortion, as did Hitler, Stalin, and Mao, Idi Amin, Saddam, and bin Laden who also believed there was no Right to Life? Now that would be ridiculous wouldn’t it?

To say there is no Right to Life is to say that it is not unjust intentionally to take an innocent human life, viz. that there is. a right to murder anyone. I think that's unequivocally refuted by the Fifth Commandment and sane societies.

Hitler decided that invalids, the infirm, and the aged served no purpose to the State and were a drag on the State’s resources. Consequently, he started executing them for the good of the State.

Hitler also decided Jews held all the financial resources that he needed to carry out his nefarious conquests, so he attempted to exterminate them too. Saddam decided that he didn’t like his son-in-laws and shot two of them at his palace while eating.

Marx thought there was no Right to Life and that man existed for the State. Hence, the State had the authority to say if you could live or die.

Stalin, of the USSR, decided he had too many starving people to feed, and so he initiated a plan to starve and murder them called the Gulag prisons.

China, a Marxist nation, decided that they have too many people, and therefore, pregnant women more than two children must have their baby murdered by abortion.

Moreover, China expanded its NO RIGHT TO LIFE policy by expanding a new human organ industry. Prisoners, who have no right to life, have become the supply and suppliers for China’s human organ industry on the world market.

Why would God create you and create the Universe for you, tell Adam and Eve to go forth and multiply, if God didn’t think you had a right to live? Therefore, God would be contradicting Himself (which is impossible), if God didn’t give you a Right to Life.

Second, legislature, or anyone, has no authority to legislate a Right to Life or any other inalienable right. The Constitution and Declaration of Independence concur.

When government, says the Declaration, continuously persists in violating your inalienable rights, the citizens not only have a right to overthrow the government and restore these rights, but a duty to do so.

Hence, the Constitution, nor government, do not give man a Right to Life or any inalienable right, but are obliged to recognizes them and protects them.

Man does not give one inalienable rights; God does that. To deny one a Right to Life is to deny God’s will. God wills man to live by creating him, but the Abortionist and a mother deny her unborn child his life, and rebukes God’s will.

Further what man gives, man can take away. But, man does not give life, God does. Therefore, man cannot take, unjustly and intentionally, an innocent human life; it's called murder, and all societies must recognize it as murder.

When God created man, he didn’t plan man to die. Adam brought death into the world with Original Sin.

Man’s soul is immortal, as Scripture says, and as we can deduce from man’s nature by reason. Man has a spiritual essence, and spiritual essences are not corruptible but eternal. Hence, Scripture tells us that man, in the final end, does not die, but he will suffer eternal punishment in Hell, or eternal happiness in Heaven.

IRT:
Case in point: the wealthy man who drifted off to sleep thinking about tearing down his silos to build bigger silos to hold even more grain. Did the Lord say to him, "you have the Right to Life, so go forth and continue on amassing wealth?" No! He said, "Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee." Do you understand? Not one of us has the right to life.

ANS:
God was not addressing man’s Right to Life, He was addressing the rich man's selfishness as he did in Luke 16: 22cf.

Hence, God made man for eternal happiness in Heaven; man’s treasures on earth are a temporary means for man to obtain the purpose for which he was created; that is eternal happiness in heaven.

This is explained in Luke 12: 22-40. Thus, it is written, “Make to yourselves bags which grow not old, a treasure in heaven which faileth not: where no thief approacheth, nor moth corrupteth.”

Vote Obama/Biden in '08 to continue with fully protected reproductive rights in the USA - and to end the war in Iraq.

Given that about 50% of all Catholics are pro-choice, 35 million Catholics can't be wrong.

Enhanced sex education, widely available conventional birth control methods and morning after pills will greatly reduce the number of abortions - attempts to prevent pro-choice rights will continue to fail.

Illegalizing abortion is not the answer, and won't prevent anything. A significant percentage of abortions are obtained by single women of lower socio-economic income status and with a limited educational background.

Doing something significant to change that demographic reality will also contribute greatly to lower abortion numbers. Try fixing problems from the bottom up for a change - rather than based on the anti-abortion ideal of educated, well placed and largely white Christian believers.

My advice to you - don't have an abortion under any circumstance, and don't support pre-meditated and pre-emptive war on sovereign nations.

Biden voted to give that power to Bush as a last resort, and has long regretted it - although his first concern was always the issue of weapons of mass destruction rather than deposing Saddam Hussein.

This was counter to the already-established and covert Cheney/Bush plan for pre-emptive war....they cared nothing for the infamous red herring - 'weapons of mass destruction'.

So consider that before blasting Biden for supporting the war. Obama opposed it from the first. McCain would probably carry the war to Iran if at all possible.

Most everyone brings up some very important points. However, I feel, many are missing the main points of the debate.

While in America we are free to practice (or not) our religion as we choose, we are not entitled to automatic respect. In public discourse, every "world view" needs to be judged as to whether it is based on religious dogma or philosophy and reason. To simply state that a view is based on one's faith, should not end debate or make it automatically equal to all others.

As a former minister who is now an atheist, I sent a letter to Pastor Warren about the forum he hosted. I don't expect him to respond, so I also posted it on my site as well. I would love any feedback ( http://tiny.cc/fio5K ).

For three and a half decades abortion has been marketed as "reproductive choice" as late term contraception. By referring to the growing baby in the womb as a clump of cells/parasite etc, the real nature of abortion has been denied, namely the killing of an unborn child.

When such a propaganda has been around for so long, it is no wonder that it has become part of the normal thinking process. It is a wonder, considering how aggressively a pro-abortionist propaganda has been propagated for so long that pro-life groups have not given up.

Proper education about what abortion is really about needs to stepped up. At least consciences that have not yet been hardened by the pro-abortionist propaganda should be made aware and sensitive to the real science concerning abortion.

The hardened responses of pro-abortionists on this forum, whether believer or atheist, shows that those who have bought into the propaganda over several years are beyond reach.

The hope for change lies with the young who are still uncorrupted by pro-abortion lies.

Valerie K. :

What was Pastor Warren's first question to Obama? A delicately-worded trap having to do with whether the President of the United States should be required to legislate abortions as illegal?

I think of the Savior's own words in response: "Thou child of Hell, why tempt ye Me?" Yes, it does say in our Constitution that we have an inalienable right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, but according to the Bible, not one of us has the right to life. In fact, through Adam and Eve, each of us has the right to death and judgment of our sins. Therefore, to attempt to legislate anyone's Right To Life makes that portion of the Constitution heresy.

Did the Lord say to him, "you have the Right to Life, so go forth and continue on amassing wealth?" No! He said, "Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee." Do you understand? Not one of us has the right to life.

When Jesus caught the Pharisees about to stone the woman caught in adultery, did he hand out picket signs to the bystanders saying, "Yes! Let's make an example of this woman. Stone her for breaking my father's holy law!" No! He said, "Ye who are without sin, cast the first stone. And for all the rest of you, here's a sign-up sheet. The woman about to walk out of this abortion clinic needs good churchgoing women to volunteer their time watching her other 5 children so she can go out and put food on the table."

Listen here, you right-to-lifers, getting ready to reach into a strange woman's uterus to protect the unborn: Last I checked, violating a woman's private parts is called Rape. Pastor Warren and other evangelicals resemble rapists when they talk about these unseemly things. Meanwhile, a slow-motion mass murder is going on in this country concerning young children who go without proper food, clothing, schooling and guidance as they grow. This is our nation in embryo we're aborting as we strain at the pro-choice gnat to swallow the poverty camel.

I can tell you that in this election you can either vote about what's going on in your wallet or someone else's bedroom. One or the other. Please choose wisely. I'm pro-Choice and I'm choosing the wallet, because I don't want to abort America's youth. Don't condemn yourselves by choosing thy neighbor's bedroom as a platform. Being a gossip will get you in trouble! Read Proverbs.

God bless you all, Readers.

An interestingly perverse take on anti-abortion position of Christians by a Christian!

Funny how murderers get sent to jail, considering nobody has a right to life.

Read online Psalm 139 and Luke chapter 1; and don't forget the Ten Commandments.

After that view some YouTube videos of fetal development, abortion procedures. Read a bit of human embryology; what Fetologists have to say about the child growing in the womb. Finally read the Hippocratic Oath by Hippocrates, the Father of Western medicine.

And until you have done all of that honestly, DON'T tell anyone who is trying to speak on behalf of the innocent, voiceless children growing in the womb, killed in the thousands everyday in name of "reproductive freedom," and telling a woman not to abort her child amounts to "Rape!"

3. That Sunnis are superior to Shiites in all aspects of life?

4. That Islam is perfect and the koran inherently condones no sin even though the 24/7 800 year-old feud between Sunnis and Shiites give significant credence that suicides, assassinations, maiming, and murder are condoned by the koran?

5. That having multiple wives also gives significant credence to the sins of lust and polygamy?

6. That the condoned treatment of these wives gives credence that the koran allows the sins of anger and greed?

7. And that Ayaan Hirsi Ali’s book, Infidel, is her autobiography and that in the paperback issue, p. 47 the statement:

"Some of the Saudi women in our neighborhood were regularly beaten by their husbands. You could hear them at night. Their screams resounded across the courtyards. "No! Please! By Allah!"

August 21, 2008

Some Americans are having a change of heart about mixing religion and politics. A new survey finds a narrow majority of the public saying that churches and other houses of worship should keep out of political matters and not express their views on day-to-day social and political matters. For a decade, majorities of Americans had voiced support for religious institutions speaking out on such issues.

The new national survey by the Pew Research Center reveals that most of the reconsideration of the desirability of religious involvement in politics has occurred among conservatives. Four years ago, just 30% of conservatives believed that churches and other houses of worship should stay out of politics. Today, 50% of conservatives express this view.

As a result, conservatives' views on this issue are much more in line with the views of moderates and liberals than was previously the case. Similarly, the sharp divisions between Republicans and Democrats that previously existed on this issue have disappeared.

There are other signs in the new poll about a potential change in the climate of opinion about mixing religion and politics. First, the survey finds a small but significant increase since 2004 in the percentage of respondents saying that they are uncomfortable when they hear politicians talk about how religious they are -- from 40% to 46%. Again, the increase in negative sentiment about religion and politics is much more apparent among Republicans than among Democrats.

Taking select passages from the Book of Mormon i.e. Joe Smith's "Book of Con", and Luke and John which do not have any relevance to the Right to Life (specific parables about rich farmers and adulterers) to prove humans do not have a right to life is very odd and is vitiated by the Command: Thou Shalt Not Kill"!!!!!!!

"We believe in separation of church and state, but not faith and politics." -- Rick Warren

I am not part of Warren's "we" and I have never been. I can and do have confidence in other people whose judgment I value. I can practice a provisional trust in my fellow citizens and even in government officials until they prove themselves untrustworthy. I can even find (or summon up) courage and hope. But I don't have "faith" (believing or pretending to believe in manifest nonsense without evidentiary support), and I don't want it. I think "faith" is poison to politics (judging from the last 8 years alone, and also from America's earlier dalliances with faith-influenced politics (1976-80).

I'm not a part of Warren's we because he claims to speak for a group that is labeled "values voters" by even the mainstream "liberal media." The pundits and political reporters feel no need to explain further, other than to use the shorthand "values voters," because "everyone understands" that they mean fundagelicals, "people of faith." One implication is that if an American voter is not (or doesn't pretend to be) religious, he or she doesn't have values and does not vote based on "values."

Thank you for your understanding. I know some of you can be great dinner guests. I lived in US for a few months as an intern in Kaiser Aluminum, Baton Rouge and lived in New Orleans, way back 1981.

I can be a good host too and cook a mean Gulf dish you ain't tasted one either.

You hit the nail about your way of government and people. Why can't America come without guns blazing and bombs to the kilt? How about sending us your teachers, your doctors and your wise men or is that why Jesus was not born in America? Coz God couldn't find a single virgin and 3 wise men?

Lets quit talking religion and tell human stories, since we share that as our common heritage.

Concerned: I love you too. Do I have hope for you? Sure I do, may another 50 lives. OK, 49. Only then you may wish to turn up at my joint for dinner. But would trust my food or would you feel it were laced with poison ivy?

Ah, the unbeliever even after 49 lives. Go back and do the last one.

Who is the God of Earth? A Person or a Spirit?
Or, The GOD that made the Atom and the Electro-Magnetic Force that makes All Life, seen and not seen. This is not the HE of Religion and Myth.

What is Freedom of Religion? The USAs Stand on Freedom of Religion, with their Christian Prayers, Icons and Holidays, in Government, is not Freedom of Religion.

The USA needs Freedom From, the Christian Religion in Government, for All Religious and Atheist Citizens.

Why does the USA and other Countries, support accepting Christianity, or some Religion, as part of their Government? Some Countries in the Past, Controlled by a Religion, are now Free of a Government Religion.

Should Humans Start working on Freedom from Religion in Government, instead of Forcing Religion, on All Children of God? Would the Earth be a Better Place, without all the Problems and War, caused by Different Religious God 'Beliefs'?

It is Time, to Start Working, on Gods True Work of Eternal Human Physical Life After Birth, with Space Travel, High Tech Colonization, and Reproduction in a High Tech Womb in the Lab. Instead of Working on Satan's False Work of Pollution, Nuclear Bombs, and War.

We need a High Tech Womb to Finish making Perfect Humans, like God's Peace Work with the Adam and Eve Clones, 'in the beginning'.

When the Perfect Clones reproduced by God, started Reproducing Imperfect Humans by Satan's Heterosexual Body Birth, Satan's Hell Work Broke out on Planet Earth.

Now the Planet is Endangered By Satan's Religious Humans, with Death to our Eco System, and to All Life on Earth. What does the Religious Teachings, of 'Eternal Life After Death' mean?

God's High Tech Perfect Peace Humans, do have Eternal Life 'After' Birth Work, Possible on Planets and in Spaceships.

It is Time to Follow Jesus, the Prince of Peace, and be about the Male and Female Clones Business. They were the 'Father' of Life's Business on Earth. Humans should Stop Following Satan's Work, to the Gates of Hell with our Nuclear Bombs.

mr. mark-

I greatly enjoyed reading your posts to Marie about abortion although I disagree with your stand to some degree. I am always open to discussion on my views and so I thought I would share some of my thought on abortion with you.

First you should know that I disagree with abortion because I believe that is killing an innocent human being, but something I have recently starting thinking about is my right to impose my belief/moral system on other people. I don't think it's right for me to tell someone how to life their life so I am some what torn on the issue. I suppsoe I am pro-life and pro-choice because I think everyone should have the choice to be pro-life or not! Just because I think it is wrong does that mean everyone should think it's wrong? You must understand it is very difficult to strongly hold a belief that something is wrong and still allow other people the freedom to do it. I think that is why so many people are so are so touchy about the issue of abortion.

With that said I do have other concerns about abortion such as the fact that some people abuse their right to choose. I've had many people tell me that MOST abortions are the result of incest or rape and I have to disagree.
I recently found out that I am pregnant and since I am a first timer I sought out a website where I could post my many questions. I found one and began reading all the previous posts and noticed a disturbing trend. There were several posts from frantic women who were terrified that they were pregnant. (Not suprising and understandable) But the sad part was that many that I read were from women had just had abortions and then only days afterwards had unproteced sex! Their main concern: when could they go have another abortion if they were indeed pregnant! You say that people have a "so what" attitude about all the people who have an accidental pregnancy and end up with an unwanted pregnancy and say that if people only knew about birth control there would fewer abortions. I agree that some people do need a little more sex education (whoever taught people that the pull-out method is birth control should be seriously punished!),but what about the people who just don't care! What about those who know they should use a condom but just don't want the hassle of having to put one on? What about the people who just hate having to swallow a pill every day or "just can't seem to remember". There are many people out there who don't see abortion as a last alternative but instead see it as another form of birth control. Those are the kind of people that make it so hard for me to say, "I don't have to right to tell you how to live."

Victoria, Victoria, Victoria,

Hmmm, now you profess to be an international expert on US and world politics. Hmmm, strange since you still cannot come to grips with the obvious flaws and errors of Islam, flaws and errors that instigate and cause violence and chaos throughout the world.

Previously you have professed a belief in the paranormal, i.e. "pretty, wingie, talking thingies aka angels, fairies and tinkerbells but you still have not revealed your other basic Islamic beliefs. So once again, the general blog population asks you, do you believe:

2. That the long-dead Arab did actually talk to the "pretty Gabriel" in the "Gabe" cave and therein received the warmongering and anti-female words now listed in the koran?

"No! Please! By Allah!" is the truth?????

Ahmed asks-
"By the way: Why do you guys fear Iran so much??"

Well- it starts with Manifest Destiny-
http://www.answers.com/topic/manifest-destiny

"The influential Puritan John Winthrop wrote, "We shall be as a City upon a Hill, the eyes of all people are upon us." Many colonial leaders adopted time-honored expansion imagery from the Bible, portraying northern European Protestant colonists as the new Israelites and North America as the new Promised Land to justify conquering new lands and dominating other cultures."

Manifest Destiny basically means that american lives are more valuable- american goals more worthy- and that the god loves us bestest of all the people- so we can take whatever we want because we are better- and know better than people do for themselves-
Americans couldn't find Iran on a map before 1979- and most still think that Iranians are arabs- and don't know that Iranians are Persians- when the Iranian revolution occurred there were 80 or so hostages taken.
When Iraq was at war with Iran- they were our great buddies-
When Reagan promised to bring the hostages home- (by the secretive now known Iran-Contra deal weapons for money for people for weapons...)
he even had the great audacity to use the "shining city on a hill" phrase- which most people now think he said- even George W uses it and attributes it to Reagan- we love that phrase-
everyone has to look up and gaze in wonder at our shininess.

Basically- it is TV- if the TV tells us to hate- we hate- and don't ask why-
Think of the movie version of 1984- where the enemy is being trucked through the streets, and Winston asks- weren't they our allies last week?
( He knew it was true because he had re-written the newspapers to conceal that fact)

We're basically really insecure about our lack of culture- being such a ridiculously young entity- relatively speaking- (Even McCain- last week at the forum- inscrutably said Americans love to imitate the French- well, they're white, and arrogant- ) to a perplexed response-

He assured us that we love the French now, and they love us too- everyone felt quite relieved as they readjusted their worldview obediently in tandem- (some had a distant memory of us renaming french fried freedom fries- but the rest of us assured them it was a false planted memeory-
No- we have always loved the French-

We can barely make it through the next soundbite Ahmed-
We really had a problem when we didn't have the Russians to be afraid of anymore- how will we galvanize the american people without a proper enemy?
We can't coalesce in the cause of race, or religion, or ethnicity- we are just so different-
It has to be nationalistic fervor- and the only way to do that is a common enemy.
September 11 gave us that enemy.
Enter Muslims- any Muslims any where will do-

Muslims are easy to hate- they are often brown- wear funny easily identifiable clothes- and best of all- many are in poor countries- with lots of natural resources-

We can be retroactive in our hatred too- revising history so that todays enemy was yesterday's enemy.
BP convinced us a long time ago that Iran was an enemy- and it is not only ok to take the booty of the enemy- it renders them weak, it makes us victors- which is our natural state in the order of the universe.

Ahmed wisely advises, "Think about that."

No- don't be silly- it is just too much work- we have plenty who are willing to think for us- why should we think?
What a subversive idea!
What next, Ahmed? Acting on our conscience?

I have to go now- this is distracting me from TV.
Peace :)

Concerned The Christian Now Liberated :

Ahmed, Ahmed, Ahmed,

You ooze of Islam. No need for you to mention the name of this very flawed religion. Its stench, mush and muck exudes from your every word.

Again, you still have your head buried in the sands of Bahrain. After you come to grips with the flaws and errors of Islam, read the Constitution of the United States of America.

And yes we the USA Taxpayers continue to protect the Muslims of Bahrain, Kuwait, Bosnia, Kosovo and Iraq with our air force, fleet and troops. Without said protection, Bahrain would now be part of Saddam Hussien's empire. And the Bosnian Muslims would be extinct.

A reminder: The flaws and errors of Islam-

The Sunni-Shiite blood feud and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder

Ahmed from Bahrain :

Deflag

you are another do-gooder who knows whats best for others without even considering their opinion.

Half of Bahrainis have Persian blood. Bahrain used to import most its food from Iran and welcome all its inhabitants. We had peace and this was in my lifetime long before your imperialistic governments put their dirty fingers in our lives thus relegating the poor young to unemployment and stolen lands from my ancestors for use by the current stoog government.

You have no defence against the people of the land but to rely on your own ignorance and hubris, which shall be your downfall.

The little island of Delmon/Gilgamish/Bahrain endured many invaders and still stands.

We might be defenseless but we have faith and plenty of it. We forgive our trespassers unlike any other Arab or Muslim.

Perhaps one day you will stand by the people instead of their unelected/undemocratic governments. You pillage while you preach democracy and freedom.

It has a name - HYPOCRATE. Go live with the people instead of reading it from some wacko link and thinking like you are a scholar on the subject. That is also dangerous.

I still love you as who you are and embrace you like a brother, as my mother did in the sixties when my brother brought 3 US soldiers ex VietNam for a meal and she cooked for them with the same love as she did for us. They even wanted to adopt my brother with Green Cards, etc. You will not come across people like us, so it pays to treat us well as opposed to side with those who want to silence us.

By the way: Why do you guys fear Iran so much?? They have not invaded any country for 300 years. Even whn Iran dropped bombs on Tehran and used chemical weapons against Iranians in their own land, that Iran never retaliated with like manner. Do you think they did not have the ability to drop bombs on Baghdad or use chemical weapons in retaliation?? Yet the US stood by Saddam in the UN?

Think about that.

Mr Mark :

Dear Marie -

Well, you once again ignore answering any of the realities I bring forward in my posts, preferring to resort to personal attack, rather than discourse.

In your last few posts, you have called me a "pompous ass living in a fantasy land," a "stereotypical thinker" "the resident troll here [who] offends everyone and your posts have turned overwhelmingly hateful of late," a "belligerent and bellicose bully with no argument and no snappy comeback [who should] sit down and shut up for a while," who is "passionate in your support of killing unborn children" and who "might like to share your thoughts on exterminating our handicapped, infirmed (sic) and elderly who can no longer make decisions for themselves."

All that self-aggrandizing name calling...and YET - you can't seem to bring yourself to post a single sentence that addresses a single point I raise that counters your positions. I wonder why?
Perhaps you believe the name calling somehow erects a "cone of silence" around those who disagree with your positions, insulating you from having to actually answer their questions directly?

How about a few actual responses, Marie, rather than your all-bark-and-no-bite personal attacks?

I look forward to ANY response you make that shuns the personal attacks...though I'll have to check back later. Your description of me above reminded me that I have to go back in time and prepare a speech I'm delivering later this week in Nurnberg...

Marie :

Mr. Mark

If you catch nothing else that I have said in this brief exchange-- please think of my overwhelming observational impression of you:

You are a stereotypical thinker.

You were told at some point that an abortion was the removal of a clump of cells. And so you think a miscarriage is a "natural abortion" because both remove the clump of cells. In truth its like saying a child's accidental pool drowning is the same as binding the child's arms and legs and throwing him into the deepend. There is nothing "natural" about abortion.

You at some point bought into the image of all Christians being one issue fanatics. So you asume I am obsessed with abortion, spend all my time picketing abortion clinics trying to control other people's lives. Mr. Mark reread what you wrote. You accused me of almost every old stereotypical platitude against Christians known to man. Do you really believe yourself? Am I really who you say I am? Or are you just spewing preconceived notions?

In truth just because I am knowledgeable and have an opinion about abortion does not mean it is my ministry. My outreach is feeding the hungry (mostly women and children)- both in America and in Africa. The group I work with establish orphanages, safe houses, and foster homes. We feed and teach how to garden/farm and preserve. The need is always great in Africa- but need is growing in America too.

So try to rethink a few things- if you are still able. And quit being such a pompous @ss living in a fantasyland.

Daniel in the Lion's Den :

Dear Anonymous and Dear Marie

I am a BETTER Christian than either of you two.

I do not think that I know much, but of this, I am CERTAIN!

You can try and fake people out with your phoney Christianity, and you may succeed in a lot of cases.

But I am not so easily fooled.

Mr Mark :

Dear Marie -

What makes you think any anti-choice movie, no matter how graphic or emotional, is going to reduce the number of abortions? Does footage of children blown to smithereens reduce war? Does watching footage of the aftermath of horrific car accidents or crashed airplanes cause us to drive more slowly or to think twice about boarding a plane?

I don't think so.

If your REAL agenda were to reduce abortions, then you would support the only two tried-and-true methods to do so: sex education and easy access to birth control (and I'm not talking about the rhythm method).

You write, "those of us in a generation younger than you are going to see this law overturned because we know the truth of abortion."

The TRUTH, Marie, is that people are going to continue to have sex, and people are going to continue to have unwanted pregnancies and women are going to continue to have abortions, no matter what you say or do. Outlaw legal abortion in this country and all you'll do is send us back to the dark ages of class inequities, where the rich can well-afford to send their "knocked-up" daughters on a "European vacation" from whence they will amazingly return pregnancy-free, while the less well-off will either resort to back-alley abortions or be forced to raise an unwanted child that they can faint afford.

THAT is the reality you are proposing, Marie, the result of a religiously based political agenda that promotes inequality, increased poverty, an even more-challenged and discriminatory social order, and the deaths of young women for no reason other than YOUR embrace of a fantasy-based worldview.

Ultimately, no matter how you spin it, your position on the above is "so what?" You oppose the right of a woman to choose and to have control of her body and her life, while cavalierly and without feeling viewing any life encumbered by an unwanted and ill-affordable child as, "too bad, it was her choice."

Don't you see something wrong with this picture, Marie? Isn't there the chance that you of the younger generation aren't aware of what abortion actually WAS in this country in the bad old days of back-alley clinics, the treatment of most woman as second-class citizens and the ever-handy and inequitable "get out of jail, free" card off off-shore abortion available to the wealthy? Isn't there the chance that no matter how you frame it, your anti-choice stance is all about controlling OTHER people's lives, not in saving the lives of fetuses that your own holy book (the Bible) considers to be only a potential life?

Think about it, Marie. I have no doubt that were legal abortion to end in this country that you would move on to some other "cause" whose ultimate goal is giving you and your religious beliefs control over the lives of those who disagree with you.

DITLD, "Dear poor ole' dumb Marie: what a failure you are as a Christian. You need to take a few steps backwards, and try again."

And you would know that a Christian is a failure by what means?? Your non-Christian means of measure??

Please excuse me while I laugh my a** off at your stupid, judgmental, and pious attitude.

How on earth anyone in their right mind thinks that they can judge a Christian's level of Christianity as being good or bad when they are a non-Christian is too much of an imbecile issue for me to imagine.

I mean, lets face it if you are not a "practicing" Christian then how can you comment on whether a person is a good or bad Christian? Stupidity rules once again!

Discriminatory God hater and Christian basher!!!

autonomous :

CCNL - such are the trials and tribulations of being a practicing Catholic - what'a a guy or gal to believe, if even the Pope can't make up his mind?? Some things have not been revealed, says Benedict ... and of that, I have no doubt.

Such equivication in theological matters on the part of the Pope cannot do much to inspire confidence among the faithful. Falling back on the grace of God is a good strategy.

As far as turning Myth into doctrinal realism - the doctrine of Original Sin as an unavoidable part of life is where the RCC starts going wrong, IMO. And as the doctrines piled up, each successive brick in the doctrinal Coda of the Church was in effect constructing the same house of cards. Without Original Sin, where would the Church be today? Mary, as we know, was the only exception (doctrinally speaking) because of her special mission.

It's a Catch-22 though - had you never been born human, you wouldn't have inherited Original Sin because of Adam and Eve's adventure with the forbidden fruit, ergo wouldn't need to be saved in order to avoid damnation, and so forth - unless you died as an Unbaptised infant, in which case you'd be better off not being born at all - being forever denied the beatific vision of God.

At best, this remains a theological possibility only, according to Benedict - and this metaphysicical uncertainty goes to the heart of the Church objection to abortion.

A zen story from nature ...

I saw a Great Blue Heron outside my window at 7AM this morning - these beautiful, majestic shore birds usually stay at the water's edge and I've never known one to leave the water other than to fly.

Anyway, I've long admired these birds and I was looking intently at this bird, who was profiled and motionless for a good 5 minutes. Suddenly, he turned in my direction, walked out of the water and straight ahead in my direction for a good 10-15 feet - he stopped in the middle of the lawn and continued looking fixedly in my direction for a few moments - then turned around and made his way back to the water where he continued with his slow stroll around the lake.

Synchronicity? Coincidence? You'll never convince me that we didn't communicate in some fashion - that bird had 'soul'.

Thanks for doing the research...

Daniel in the Lion's Den :

Dear Victoria

I had not heard of this word, "schadenfreude," so I looked it up.

It is a perfect word to describe much of Conservative Christians, and Born-Again Christian Evangelicals. It is the most perfect word.

But, it is also a little sad, isn't it?

Daniel in the Lion's Den :

Marie, Marie, Marie

Aren't you a bit of an abortion-obsessed ghoul?

I believe that when we think in the present moment, we are speculating. And all of the thoughts and feelings and emotions and beliefs that have come into our minds prior to the current moment, all came to us by way of ever-changing contingencies. My religion is the product of contingencies and speculation.

But it is wrong to devote ones entire life to endless speculation. Instead, it is better to live, to act, to do, to be busy, to enjoy the good times, when we are fortunate enough to encounter them, and to help out those we love and care about, and those even whom we may not know very well, when the good times have departed, and things are not going so well.

Dear poor ole' dumb Marie: what a failure you are as a Christian. You need to take a few steps backwards, and try again.

Sorry for your family's loss- Mr.Mark.

You say-

"I can almost see you salivating as you write"

Actually when I see what is happening and speak of it-- I cry.

And I understand you may be a bit older and set in your beliefs than I am. But you must know that there have been medical advances since RoevWade. Those of us in a generation younger than you are going to see this law overturned because we know the truth of abortion.

So for your education:

Abortion Clinic 911 Emergency Calls - Baby Rowan

OFD: Orlando Fire Department.

"(Unintelligible.)
OFD: Thank you. What is the address of the emergency?

Friend: 609 West Virginia Street. The EPOC Center.

OFD: 609 West Virginia? One moment please.

Friend: Let's see ... I don't have the address on me. A friend of mine called from the abortion clinic and her baby was born alive.

OFD: Okay. Do you know the closest intersection? Did she call you on a phone?

Friend: Right, she called me on her cell phone.

OFD: Okay. Did you ask her to call 911? Because ...

Friend: She asked me to call because she was back there with no kind of ... They were just telling her to leave it ... this is gross but ... leave it in the toilet, you know, and let it die.

OFD: Is she in a house?

Friend: She's in the clinic, the abortion clinic."

It may be that we need to reconsider our standard for viability in light of Amillia's case (see below). Over the years, the technology that we have available to save premature babies has improved dramatically. Today, we can save babies that would have never survived 10 years ago.

"Sonja Taylor is overjoyed to be taking baby Amillia home after four months in the NICU at Baptist Children's Hospital in Miami, FL. Amillia is the world's youngest gestational-age baby, born at 21 weeks and six days on Oct. 24, 2006. Weighing less than ten ounces and measuring only 9.5 inches in length, she is also the fourth smallest baby in the world to survive."

There is a great deal of schadenfreude in her post's Mr. Mark.

Mr Mark :

Dear Marie -

Now, you're sort of pissing me off with your 22-week movie trailer.

My wife and I lost a baby at 25 weeks. We were one of those unlucky couples who lose a baby through miscarriage. We learned at that time that 25% of pregnancies in the USA don't come to term through miscarriages. Our baby lived for a few hours after being delivered vaginally, but at that point, most fetuses aren't viable out of the womb.

It was a traumatic experience, to say the least, and one that I wouldn't wish on anyone else.

The near-glee you express in your post that watching a re-enactment of a supposedly "true story" of a woman locked in a bathroom post-abortion via a movie trailer is quite distasteful. I can almost see you salivating as you write "it's going to be an intense movie." Perhaps you'll be the first in line to buy the tie-in merchandising for the flick which might include fetus dolls and abortion doctor scrub sets, complete with a set of horns to wear during the operation.

I really don't see the point of such a movie, any more than I would see the point of a movie that re-enacted the anguish my wife, our 4-yr-old son and I went through (an event that amounted to a "natural" abortion), any more than I would see the point of real life stories of children being decapitated in automobile accidents, accompanied by depictions of the "intense" feelings of anguish their parents would suffer through.

You're a voyeur, Marie, and a vulture of a voyeur at that.

B16 did not delete limbo. Had he done so, he would have deleted original sin, that archaic, Augustine guilt trip put upon us by two mythical parents living in some mythical, magical garden. Had B16 done so, he would have vitiated the immaculate conception and the need for baptism and started the needed ball moving for removing 2000 years of mumbo jumbo. This B16 was not willing to do since the his "divine" authority would also come into question.

The actual wording leaving limbo still in limbo and B16 still in power:

"Our conclusion (the Vatican commission) is that the many factors that we have considered above give serious theological and liturgical grounds for hope that unbaptized infants who die will be saved and enjoy the beatific vision.

We emphasize that these are reasons for prayerful hope, rather than grounds for sure knowledge. There is much that simply has not been revealed to us.[22] We live by faith and hope in the God of mercy and love who has been revealed to us in Christ, and the Spirit moves us to pray in constant thankfulness and joy.[23]

What has been revealed to us is that the ordinary way of salvation is by the sacrament of baptism. None of the above considerations should be taken as qualifying the necessity of baptism or justifying delay in administering the sacrament.

Rather, as we want to reaffirm in conclusion, they provide strong grounds for hope that God will save infants when we have not been able to do for them what we would have wished to do, namely, to baptize them into the faith and life of the Church.

Pope Benedict XVI authorized publication of this document, which is not an official expression of the Church's teaching,[24] but only one of the opinions that the Catholic Church does not condemn, allowing them to be held by its members. Media reports that by the document "the Pope closed Limbo"[25] are thus without foundation. In fact, the document explicitly states that "the theory of limbo, understood as a state which includes the souls of infants who die subject to original sin and without baptism, and who, therefore, neither merit the beatific vision, nor yet are subjected to any punishment, because they are not guilty of any personal sin.

This theory, elaborated by theologians beginning in the Middle Ages, never entered into the dogmatic definitions of the Magisterium, even if that same Magisterium did at times mention the theory in its ordinary teaching up until the Second Vatican Council.

IT REMAINs therefore a possible theological hypothesis" (second preliminary paragraph); and in paragraph 41 it repeats that the theory of Limbo "remains a possible theological opinion".

We need a faith and belief system in Alive Humans, instead of Religious Life After Death.

Why do all the Charitable Organizations Keep struggling to feed the poor? The Poor keep growing, as the Population skyrockets. Did God Create Humans for Dying, 'in the beginning'?

Does God hold our Human Sin against us? Why do Human Brothers/Sisters Hate each other? What is a God Sin, a Brother/Sister Sin? Unequal Sharing of the Resources, for All Life on Earth?

Adam and Eve had Equal Birth 'in the beginning'. They become Unequal, when the Male and the Female lost and their Equality and Virginity. Why is the Female blamed for the Original Sin?

Why did the Male make the Female Reproduce Humans, when God made Humans Supernaturally? Today Our High Tech Science 'does Know how' to Reproduce Humans supernaturally, besides in the Female Womb.

Instead, Fallen Humans made Nuclear Bombs, to Kill all this Fallen Life they Reproduced. Why?

We do make thrones up in the air, airplanes, etc., and fiery chariots, shuttles, and Spaceships like God. God, a person was seen, sitting upon thrones in the air, and coming out of fiery pillars of cloud and fire, when they landed on a mountain.

God also walked, and talked with Humans, face to face, like Abraham and Moses. God was not a Spirit 'Being', but a Living Human Being. The Living Peace God, was our High Tech Science Colonizing Human Ancestors. The Living Killer God was the High Tech Noah/Atlantis Society.

Until we Accept who God is, Human or Spirit, Humans will keep on Killing and Starving our Over-Reproduced Body Birth Brothers/Sisters of Life on Earth. Fallen Humans will destroy All Life on Earth, with our Pollution and Nuclear Bombs.

Charity on Earth 'is' the Crumbs from the Rich Man's Table. Our Starving Human Brothers/Sisters are still dying. Is this for Love of God, and our Brothers/Sisters of Life? Or for Greed?

Was the morality of adultery questioned or ignored?

I am no fan of Obama, I've been a registered Republican my whole adult life, since I registered to vote at the age of 21.

McCain, however is an adulter who is married to a woman who is an adultress. At what point does adultry become acceptable?

Does the Christian Bible condone adultry?

Because I think adultry is morally wrong, does that mean I can never be accepted as a moral person, especially since I am not a Christian?

I'm confused and dismayed. I'm a military veteran and an atheist.

I have voted for Christians for 35 years. Yet a poll of Christian showed they would never consider an atheist for public office not matter their other qualifications. Isn't this bigotry?

Does anyone recall 1930's Germany? So many Jews lost their lives because they could not believe they would be betrayed by the country where they had been citizens for generations.

The signs are showing growing intolerance in the U.S.A. Do I need to take my family to a country that is not a theocracy to insure my families lives? (I constantly hear that this is a Christian country!)

There is no reassurance possible from people who tell me that I will spend eternity burning in hell no matter how good of a person I am because I do not accept their god.

These same people tell me that serial murderer cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer is in heaven because he did accept their god.

When morals are not based on logic and fairness, how can they be called morals?

The question: "We believe in separation of church and state, but not faith and politics." What's your response to that and to the forum?

It seems to me that "church" and "state" refer to institutions of the country, and therefore are to be neutral in expression and legislation. "Faith" and "politics" have to do with the people, their subjective and objective lives, and therefore are highly personal and not neutral.

Rather than think of the difference as a wall or barrier, maybe we could think of it as a distilling border through which the aspiration and needs of everyday people are addressed (to the extent that current institutions speak or are relevant to people's needs...and I think our culture crisis is based on the fact that our institutions are no longer relevant to our level of consciousness). Few people believe in our institutions. Social, economic, religious, political, scientific institutions are empty forms based on the past.

Rick Warren is trying to make religion relevant to the state of the world. The problem is that the state of the world is way beyond the ability of even 1 billion Christians to change using the old system of donation. People want justice and peace, but donating (which has been used for how long?) has not changed the conditions in which the poor live.

CCNL - please share more of your pure Roman Catholic metaphysics! The fact is, the RCC dropped the concept of Limbo some time back - the idea that an unbaptised infant soul still stained with Original sin was not fit for Heaven...but could not be cast into Hell or Purgatory either.

But this conceptualized state of eternal spiritual suspension finally stopped making sense somewhere along the way, and was expunged only in recent years. Awakening to the light of logic and reason can sometimes take centuries.

Now we need definitive answers on how and when the soul is created - before we can make any assumpions (pardon the pun) about when said soul enters the fetal body, and so forth. In other words, your case against abortion has not been proven beyond a doubt.

In any event, if you believe in the soul, it follows that a soul deprived of a body needs to return to it's (divine) source. That wouldn't be such a bad thing, but this idea of an immediate round trip to it's Maker highlights another metaphysical problem - if souls are created by God at some point outside of time, these very souls are also created with Original Sin which is our primary inherited spiritual characteristic from the Fall, following RCC doctrine - thus the need for Baptism.

Without Limbo and without baptism, where do these spiritually imperfect souls (through no fault of their own) actually go?

The actual details related to any kind of spirit state or dimension are hard to grasp, unless you've actually visited said spirit state, wouldn't you agree? RCC metaphysics is equally hard to grasp.

And on what authority can it be said that other creatures do or do not also have souls? Every creature has evolved with exactly the kind of intelligence suited to that creature's existence. What are the differences between intelligence and the 'character' of the soul?

Is it true that souls are created by God from nothing only to live eternally in Heaven or Hell?

These questions demand answers......

“A young woman is locked in the bathroom of an abortion clinic after her aborted baby was born alive.”

Here is the woman's true story:

Thoughts:

The soul (if it exists) separates personkind from the animalkind. If personkind starts at conception then said soul is present at said conception. Aborting/murdering i.e. denying nourishment to or poisoning this body and soul kills the body but not the soul. The RCC says the aborted soul goes to limbo. What rubbish!! The souls from aborted bodies definitely would go to Heaven (if it exists) as these spirits would be perfectly pure.

Do said souls require the future ability to think? To be able to know right from wrong? Do the souls of mentally disabled fetuses, have this ability? Do they then have souls or not? Are they to be considered personkind or only animalkind?

Are our mentally disabled brothers and sisters to be considered animals? Have our senior citizens with dementia or Alzheimers lost their souls and now to be considered animals?

Or maybe we should protect all of our brothers and sisters at every stage of their lives without considering the state of their souls??

Other sites advertise to be "uncensored" but as soon as you post something controversial your post is deleted without explanation or warning within hours-days.
I got really tired of all this BS and so I said to myself:
Why not create your own site where everyone can speak their mind, regardless of the points of view they have without fear, where people can actually choose ANY topic and discuss it. Where you can truly post anonymously, be that replying to a specific topic or even post a new one.

I am not going to post a link here, I challenge you to visit Google or Yahoo or MSN or even Altavista and search for : "Off-Topic Community" the first listing would be our site.

What has put the wild hair up your butt?

I think I know:

"JOHN McCain has grabbed the lead over Barack Obama in a new opinion poll, in the latest sign of accelerating momentum for the Republican as the key phase dawns in their White House battle.

Senator McCain led Senator Obama 47 per cent to 46 per cent in a nationwide matchup in the new George Washington University Battleground poll published today. The Illinois Democrat had led the same poll by 49 per cent to 47 per cent in May.

The George Washington survey was the latest poll to show an erosion in Senator Obama's poll numbers, following several weeks of withering attacks by McCain on his national security judgment and celebrity.

It also came days before Senator Obama is expected to unveil his vice-presidential pick ahead of the Democratic convention next week, to be followed by Senator McCain's running mate selection and the Republican convention between September 1 and 4.

Other polls have also been showing a Senator McCain spurt.

A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll out yesterday gave Senator Obama a slim lead of 45 to 43 per cent, within the survey's three point margin of error. In June he had led by 12 points, though other polls at the time had the race slightly closer.

A Quinnipiac University poll yesterday also showed Senator Obama's national lead over Senator McCain slipping - he led 47 to 42 per cent, down from a 50 to 41 per cent lead nationally in the same poll a month ago."

WAA-WAA!!

It's simple: the president can be anti-choice as are you, but that has NOTHING to do with the oath he swears as president. If we're discussing baking cookies, does abortion enter into the discussion?

Can't you get that simple concept through your thick skull? No, you can't...because you don't want to.

"McCain is nowhere near as bad as previous Republican electoral choices;."

The problem with McCain is that he is a doddering old man who can't remember things from one day to the next. As Frank Rich wrote in the NY Times this week:

"While reporters at The Post and The New York Times have been vetting McCain, many others give him a free pass. Their default cliché is to present him as the Old Faithful everyone already knows. They routinely salute his “independence,” his “maverick image” and his “renegade reputation” — as the hackneyed script was reiterated by Karl Rove in a Wall Street Journal op-ed column last week. At Talking Points Memo, the essential blog vigilantly pursuing the McCain revelations often ignored elsewhere, Josh Marshall accurately observes that the Republican candidate is “graded on a curve.”

"Most Americans still don’t know, as Marshall writes, that on the campaign trail “McCain frequently forgets key elements of policies, gets countries’ names wrong, forgets things he’s said only hours or days before and is frequently just confused.” Most Americans still don’t know it is precisely for this reason that the McCain campaign has now shut down the press’s previously unfettered access to the candidate on the Straight Talk Express."

Is this the guy anyone wants with his finger on the button?

Your argument "You will learn that the DoI concerns itself with the rights of MEN WHO ARE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS FOR THEMSELVES, not with UNBORN CHILDREN." begs the question:

If unborn children may be killed because they are incapable of making independent decisions what about the handicapped, infirmed and elderly who also are fragile and can no longer make live independently?

Why not admit that you are belligerent and bellicose bully with no argument and no snappy comeback.. nothing. Why not sit down and shut up for a while.

Mr Mark :

Marie writes:

The discussion has nothing to do with abortion. It has to do with Mark Nelson averring that the president "takes an oath to protect life."

The president no more takes such an oath than does the Dunkin' Donuts man. The president no more takes an oath to protect life than he does to subscribe to HBO.

Unfortunately, your passion as a single-issue voter is clouding your ability to contribute to the present discussion as a discussion separate from your biases.

Mr Mark :

Aquarius writes:

"McCain...advocates nuclear power."

Which is a good example of why one shouldn't support him - and it has nothing at all to do with nuclear waste.

The elephant in the room with nuclear power is that it is a short-term solution for the simple fact that all of the identified sources for nuclear fuel in the world (including reprocessed sources from decommissioned warheads) is only enough fuel to power the world's EXISTING plants for another 50 years.

Nuke power currently accounts for 6% of the world's energy sources. To make a dent in fossil fuel dependency, nuke power would need to account for a minimum of 25% of the world's energy source. That would mean a 4-fold increase in power from nuke plants. That would mean building roughly 4 times as many nuke plants as now exist. That would mean that that 50-year supply would ALSO be REDUCED 4-fold to a supply of about TWELVE YEARS.

At that point, fuel sources are exhausted, and those nuke plants are worthless.

Unless the nuke industry is willing and able to make the huge investment in R&D to extract nuclear fuel from, say, sea water, or to finding a way to increase the capture of the Uranium 235 isotope by 800% compared to what is captured now in mining efforts (thus having the effect of extending the lifetime of the limited supply of uranium) nuke plants are not a long-term solution. The costs for such R&D would be astronomical, and would be paid by the taxpayers.

McCain harping on nuke power as if it is a long-term energy solution is just another example of Senator Lazy-Ass shooting in soundbites while refusing to do even the most-cursory homework on the subject before offering a "solution."

You seem to be passionate in your support of killing unborn children. Perhaps you'd like to share your thoughts on exterminating our handicapped, infirmed and elderly who can no longer make decisions for themselves.

Mr Mark :

Mark Nelson writes:

"When you take the oath as President you are taking an oath to protect life."

Here's the presidential oath as outlined in the Constitution:

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

The president swears to protect the Constitution. Where is there a clause to "protect life" in the Constitution? Mayhaps you are confusing the Constitution with the Declaration of Independence, and its "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" phraseology? If so, you surely realize that the DoI is not addressed to the unborn, do you not?

Read the Preamble for yourself. You will learn that the DoI concerns itself with the rights of men who are able to make decisions for themselves, not with unborn children.

In any case, the DoI has NOTHING to do with the president's oath to defend the Constitution.

Don't mistake the complete lack of an original thought for 'clarity of thinking'. There are no simple solutions to complex problems. This is not good news to republicans, I'll admit.

The fact that McCain presents his ever-changing ideas in authoritative but familiar sound bytes that evangelicals can understand, does not inspire confidence in voters that expect to hear about real solutions to very big problems from their next President - problems largely created by republicans of the past and present.

Will American voters get the President they need, or the President they deserve, as the Aquarius post suggests? Not the same thing at all......

What happened to separation of church and state?

Do we have to suffer fools who pander to radical Christian theology rather than telling the American people that in order to represent all the people, the Constitution requires political representatives to set aside their particular religious views influence decisions and policy?

Have Americans have become so naive that they are willing to give up a fundamental principle upon which their rights are secured?

Emma - I refer you to the Aquarious post just above yours....we have met the enemy, and he is us. The war we fight now is as much internal as external. Mindless ideologies, be they religious and/or political will be our undoing.

Precipitating the pre-emptive war in Iraq without a true and valid reason has caused us far more harm than the other enemies of which you speak....especially when the enemy that we should have sought back in 2001 was well defined, more homogeneous, and far fewer in number. That time certainly lacked the political complexity of today, by magnitudes.

So then - did we ultimately add rocket fuel to that potentially containable fire by our premediated but unfounded actions? Should we assume that more of the same will have a different and desirable outcome in the future?

Good intentions gone bad, or just plain arrogant stupidity? Preventing more of the same is our only hope.

This pro-choice business is a political red herring that's being raised once again to distract and divide - a well-worn republican tactic that has had considerable success in the past. And who knows? The public may fall for it yet again....it's beginning to look like it to me.

The whole event reminded me of a story a friend of mine told me a few weeks ago.
He lives in Oklahoma and got introduced to his girlfriend's father, not long ago.
"You are not white", the father told him.
My friend is actually whiter than most people (he is Bulgarian), he is pale-skinned and dark-haired - he actually looks a lot like Hitler minus the mustache.
"What's your religion" was the next question.
"Eastern Orthodox"
"What?"
"Ehh..call it Catholic"
"We hate Catholics"
And so it went. The next time they met the father had checked where Bulgaria was, to confirm his hunch that my friend might not be White.
Bulgaria turned out to be bordering Turkey, so he stuck to his opinion that he is probably not White, chances were my friend might have contracted something unWhite across the border.

When I hear stories like this, an imaginary hand starts creeping towards an imaginary red button captioned "launch".
Strangely enough, I got the exact same feeling watching the Saddleback interviews.
It all reminds me of Toynbee and the Study of History:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Study_of_History

"He argues that the breakdown of civilizations is not caused by loss of control over the environment, over the human environment, or attacks from outside. Rather, it comes from the deterioration of the "Creative Minority," which eventually ceases to be creative and degenerates into merely a "Dominant Minority" (who forces the majority to obey without meriting obedience). He argues that creative minorities deteriorate due to a worship of their "former self," by which they become prideful, and fail to adequately address the next challenge they face."

In other words, "the civilization" gets a narcisistic personality disorder.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissistic_personality_disorder

There is no need for a red button captioned 'launch'. What greater punishment could the midwest receive, than the presidents it elects?!
And what could you possibly do with people as hell-bent as this? Stand in their way, get run over? Kick them towards the abyss, get thanked for helping them move faster towards where they are going anyway (5 years ago I would have said yes to that)?

Yes, the USA is great (as both interviewees said), and it probably does deserve rescuing from it's own delusions of greatness which is not great at all and which does not deserve rescuing.

Anyway, "the greatest experiment in history" may well turn out to be the greatest lesson in history for the next greatest experiment in history (that would be the EU).

the only question that mattters, and the one Warren should have asked, is what should the law do to my daughter if she ignores my parental and pastoral advice and runs away for an abortion? Should we convict her of capital murder, manslaughter, misdemeanor child abuse, what? answer that and then we'll talk.

The only people who think Obama "lost" this discussion -- it wasn't a debate by any definition -- are those who are uncomfortable with nuanced views. McCain may or may not have heard part of the Obama questioning; the only thing that matters about that is whether Warren meant for it to happen, which I doubt.
Both candidates are smart enough to have been able to predict what kind of questions they'd get from an evangelical pastor.

Bluefirewitch wrote "I would like to know when the next "faith" debate will be held and if they will hold one in a Bahai Temple, Coven Gathering, Buddhist Monastery, Mosque, Synogogue, Druid's Grove, or any non Christian place of religious praise and/or worship."

The Baha'i community would almost certainly not permit a debate of any kind - presidential or other - in its temples. The sanctuaries of Baha'i temples are for the reading of the Word of God and a cappella singing only.

I doubt the Baha'is would permit such a debate to be held in any other Baha'i property because the Baha'is, as a matter of principle, remain absolutely aloof from partisan politics, to such an extent that Baha'is do not belong to political parties and do not campaign for candidates. Baha'is make their own electoral decisions based on their conscience, so long as they can vote for an individual rather than a party. In any election where voting requires an open identification with any political party in order to vote (such as party primaries), a Baha'i will not vote.

I suspect most Baha'is would find the idea of presidential debates in houses of worship troubling. The purpose of the edifice, after all, is the worship of God and being open to His Word, not to the passing thoughts of aspirants to political office.

Rick Warren asks Barack Obama, “When does human life begin?” Obama’s answer: "Answering that question is above my pay grade."

OK, what IS above a president's pay grade?

And why bring that up HERE?

I've never been to a mega church. They scare me in the way that taking acid or peyote at an amusement park would scare me.

Interesting thing about Rick Warren though. Much as I sincerely doubt I'd fall in line anywhere close to his politics---the man actually gives 90% of his income back to his church and it's missions around the world. Doubtful that too many board members of the Carlyle Group or senior executives at Haliburton do that.

I'd imagine Obama would have much rather have been body surfing in the Pacific on a sunny Hawaiian Beach than sitting on a stage in a southern California mega church. He clearly did not have home field advantage.

It kind of reminded of what we were doing while this was going on. Our nieces---Olivia, 15---she of a razor sharp improvisational wit, think Tina Fey when she was really young---and Samantha, 11--a sweet natured soul who's job will someday be loving the world; were over for a weekend of being deliciously spoiled, indulged and loved by their cool aunt and uncle--or at least that's how we saw it.

But there was a two hour break when it was time for them to accompany us to a grown up, no-kids back yard barbecue.Like Obama at the mega church---they really didn't want to be there. But like Obama---they went.

I wonder if that was above my nieces pay grade?

Blowing off Rick Warren might not be exactly like saying, "Go to your boring party---we're staying here on the couch watching the Jonas Brothers."

But both actions would show the point: Sometimes you just do stuff cause you got to.Like I said to Olivia walking to the barbecue: This might not be the funnest thing you've ever done. But I'll bet it will be a pretty good story for you to tell later."

Which brings us back to the one sound bite line from the barbecue Obama probably didn't want to go to either: "The president's pay grade? What's above it?A reasonable response would be--- nothing. The buck stops here.John McCain would likely agree with that. And you KNOW George Bush would agree with that. He IS the "Decider" after all.

Isn't ultimate authority what we want in our President?

I sure hope not. And Obama's answer---as cryptic as it might seem on first listen--suggests otherwise.

Imagine a President who does NOT claim ultimate authority.

A President who says: "Let's bring other voices to the table." Not as a stunt; but because that is simply who he is.

There is a "talent theme"---hard wired, observable, behavioral, " strength called "HARMONY" identified by the Gallup Organization in their research on what makes us human.

People born with HARMONY instinctively look for consensus in much the same way that oh I don’t know---I instinctively look for a cold beer on a hot day.

So what if the first thing Obama was communicating--albeit cryptically--was: "this ain't about ME---it's about all of us."And then take it one step further. By invoking a "higher pay grade"---what if what he was saying was: "There is a higher power than ME."

He foreshadowed the remark when he talked about the selfishness of his youth---thinking the world was all about him.

Now, one doesn't run for leader of the free world without some small bit of arrogance. But the fact that he can communicate even an awareness of the fact that it is NOT ALL ABOUT HIM is telling.

John McCain couldn't do that. And I'm pretty sure Cindy couldn't either.

We forget---that talk of a higher power does not have to be code for the religious right. Sometimes higher power can mean higher power.

One that doesn't even have to mean Christian. It could just mean higher power. And if there is a higher power than ME---than maybe the stranglehold on religion that occurs when we confuse it with worshipping the country---can be loosened just a little bit.

When that happens---what becomes clear is that we don't even have to be a Christian nation.

When Obama said "that's above my pay grade"---maybe what he was saying was:

"I don't have all the answers. But with harmony in mind---maybe we can all come to the table--and figure it out. And if we can somehow---instead of posturing, invading, blustering, recognize that there are things in the universe BIGGER THAN WE ARE (and if you choose to not believe in God---OK---but you might want to check out China)---if we can even imagine there is a higher power than ourselves as Americans---then maybe---like Olivia and Samantha did when they sat politely and quietly through the grown up barbecue--have some hope for better times.

Maybe this is the part where he starts leading us to discover on our own what he means by---hope.

What Newsweek should do is engage the progressive Baptist discussion to the Left of Land and Warren on the debate, the likes of Robert Parham at Ethicsdaily.com; John Pierce of the moderate Baptist Monthly Baptists Today; Melissa Rogers--see her blog; and Charles Kimball of Wake Forest to see how Warren though with noble intent, might be a little naive in regard and his positioning of the Southern Baptist Convention in national Politics.
A thorough going cover story of Richard Land of the SBC and his history with Karl Rove annd how all that shaped the Warren event; that history goes begging and should be a startingpoint for further inflection of the Warren event.

Faith shouldn't be a private affair. It should be public. You don't see people wearing their favorite sports jersey inside out, do you? You don't see folks who attend a certain college never discuss their alma mater? More importantly, how many politico bumper stickers do you see daily?

Why should faith be private? Are you ashamed that you believe in God? Afraid of the Romans sending you to the pit with the lions? Absurd.

About Rick Warren, I thought the quote was insightful. "Church and state" refer more to ideology than dogma. "Faith and politics" is the Christian credo. For a child of God, you shouldn't have one without the other.

I wrote more about that here, if you fancy some intelligent punditry.

McCain took a stand saying life starts at conception. And doesn't it. When are we ever truly on our own? Babies are said to be "babies" when they can survive outside the womb. But that is misleading as many would not be alive today if that was the test for old people, crippled people, etc.

So many people hate Bush because of the stands that he has taken. In my mind, a leader stands and keeps standing, even when it is unpopular to do so. If our parents raised their children by being being popular then who would be taking over the parents?

McCain shows leadership. Willing to be honest even at the peril of losing votes and looking "bad".
Of course, Bama wants to take advantage of that , when McCain was so clear, that he wants everyone to be rich, Bama says he thinks only of the wealthy. Earning is not the problem in this country. Making tough decisions and being consistent with the things that we are not good at is more the issue. There are solutions, but somettimes we focus on the problems and who is to blame. Choices are important. BE, DO and HAVE.
BE outrageous, Do outrageous things, and have an incredible life. Be peaceful, Do peaceful things and you will have peace. Many want to have peace before they will be peaceful. Many want to have love before they will give or or be loving.
I have faced death and with clarity will tell you that Jesus is real, and that death is not funny. It is certainly within our pay grades to face this times ahead with joy, peace and love.

My family and I tuned into Pastor Rick Warren's debate Saturday evening. We considered it to be an important and defining moment in American politics.

So Pastor Warren, we took you at your word when you said there was a coin toss -- and Senator McCain would be secluded so as to not hear the questions you posed. Now there is serious doubt as to the truth of that statement.

Here's my question to you: When you make promises, and do this under the guise of Christian truths and values -- and then it turns out that what you said was not true -- who are we left to ever believe?

Our household is very disappointed to learn that Senator McCain had this unfair advantage. Had you said "the Senator is on his way in a motorcade" and then "the Senator is now finally in our green room" it would have given us a possible explanation as to his snappy and (now we realize) seemingly prepared answers.

You and Senator McCain should be ashamed that you were not fully honest and forthcoming.

Ahmed, Ahmed, Ahmed,

Hmmm, so much rhetoric and "expertise" about/in world politics and religion but you still cannot come to grips with the flaws and errors in your own religion. It is now that time!!!

Once again, the flaws and errors of Islam:

The Sunni-Shiite blood feud and the warmongering, womanizing (11 wives), hallucinating founder.

JOB 38:25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;
MAT 12:25 And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:
MAR 3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.
MAR 6:41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

I must admit disappointment. Sally should suck her thumb, since as I recall no one can enter heaven except as a child. Sally could still take to thumb sucking and I've tried it myself. That was years ago, with Grandmother and others to watch over the thumb sucking we tend to forget how beautiful we were as children. Then something happens to remind us of those times. It's the same as the story of creation, our creation and all that is good in life. We were protected and now we are the adults and they are the children. We are like them, we were once them so the thumb doesn't stray from the hand. It is still useful as we see. Thumbs up means one thing and thumbs down another. Everybody knows what that means. It does not need to be taught in school, it just goes without saying. It is like love and that's thumbs up and it never sucks. There are other matters of faith that I can't express here. A YouTube video of me sucking my thumb might seem funny, it wouldn't make the evening news though. Who cares? Sally made me think and that is what she does best. If she didn't make you think she would be doing something else, so God love her for her work and if she needs to suck her thumb to get to heaven I say if that's what it takes I'll suck my thumb too. If that is what heaven demands, hell must require other sorts of suckers and lots of them. You only have two thumbs and there are lots of suckers out there and more are on the way. Just watch the number of postings here that suck and you will see numbers that suck too. You have to take the good with the bad, so it all goes forward even if it sucks.

Mr Mark :

The cat is out of the bag:

Rev Warren LIED when he said McCain was backstage in a cone of silence. McCain was in his motorcade, well able to hear updates on the questions being asked and the Obama answers being given...unless one wants to imagine that in this day of cell phones and portable media that McCain's being in a limo somehow kept him sequestered from hearing what was going on during Obama's session.

Rev Warren knew he was lying when he made his statement. He gave every impression that McCain was already at the church, and that he was already in the fabled cone. It was his church, his forum, his staff, his rules. Are we really to believe he didn't know he was lying?

The Purpose-driven LIE, Rev Warren. Sadly, typical of those Xians who believe it is OK to lie for Jesus.

Prediction: McCain will issue a statement that he wasn't in a cone of silence, but that through the personal integrity that he displayed while in the Hanoi Hilton, he can assure all that he didn't take advantage of the situation, even though he could have.

One wonders how that will go down with the wife he cheated on.

I would like to know when the next "faith" debate will be held and if they will hold one in a Bahai Temple, Coven Gathering, Buddhist Monastery, Mosque, Synogogue, Druid's Grove, or any non Christian place of religious praise and/or worship.

When will the voices of all faiths and non faiths, truly be seen as equals?

VICTORIA :

Some of the questions were downright playing to McCain's strengths also-
Ostensibly, it was supposed to be about issues that interest every american- but I have to say- that question about adoption (?) came out of left field- ("Would you be willing to do an emergency plan for adopted children?")
but it DID give John a chance to talk about his adopted bangladeshi baby- (you can just hear the crowd- awww)
but has anyone seen any pictures of this girl?
I haven't- I've seen loads of daughter Meghan- hmmm.
But I think we are all aware of how pervasive and important the "adoption" issue is this election cycle.
"What supreme court justice would you have NOT appointed...and why?"
(McCain whipped off a list but never did say WHY-

Nuanced Obama stated he disagreed with the constitutional interpretation by Scalia- very vague!

The 'gut wrenching decision question gave John the op to tell his 'to leave or not to leave hanoi hotel' again story- punctuated with the cross in the dirt story just for good measure-

I seem to recall seeing that scene in The robe, or maybe assuggested by another poster it was Ben Hur-

"At what point does a baby get human rights?"
Well, there's a loaded question if I ever heard one.

"Name a time when you went against the party for the good of America"
Obama told the story of when he was a freshman in the Senate and voted against the iraq war-

but wait a minute!
McCain ALSO ended with a 25 year old story of when HE was a freshman in the Senate and voted agianst sending the marines to Beirut!
(But he didn't hear anything in the cone of silence- it's just a coincidence.)

Evil?
MC- defeat it! grrrrr.
How? by following Bin Laden to the gates of hell, of course!
ummmm- well- ok- but what about the rest?

OBAMA- Confront it. We have done evil in the cause of fighting evil.

But most interesting of all- was the wording (and answers) of their greatest personal moral failure, and the greatest moral failure of America-

McCain said (quicky and decisively) the failure of his marriage. Not his failure- but the marriage- not exactly a strong personally responsible admission- but ok- we'll accept that.
And then, America? Well, we have not always served the greatest good- but when we have , WE ARE THE BEST AT IT!! (rah rah rah)

(I bet this is where Sally almost sucked her thumb)

Luckily, Obama didn't fall into this tricky trap.

But i have to admit- I was a bit flummoxed when McCain stated that we have allies in the french president now- and that we love to imitate the french.
It wasn't sarcasm- just said quickly and hardly noticed by the audience- but I couldn't exactly remeber WHEN that has been a popular sentiment to express-
But the crowd was very forgiving with John.
Warren didn't have to TELL them to get on their feet and applaud.

O yes, OFFSHORE DRILLING! OFFSHORE DRILLING! OFFSHORE DRILLING! (inserted by John for absolutely no reason, but it did get the crowd roused.)

What does OnFaith think about the separation of faith and politics?

Would Sally and Jon have such jobs at this point without them?

Notwithstanding that the forum was home field for McCain- playing to his own base (always an advantage, wouldn't you agree?), or that he got to be the last speaker- (also, always an advantage)-

It also gave McCain the opportunity to hear the questions beforehand.

The thought first occurred to me that his 'cone of silence' had a leak- was when he came out with rapid fire , seemingly preplanned answers-

The commentators on FOX, after the venue- kept crowing about the "clarity and decisiveness" of his answers. Also noting that he answered before Mr. Warren had even finishd asking the questions!

He came out guns blazing, as it were- chomping at the bit. Answers ready and short.

Now, Ive seen McCain speaking extemporaneoulsy on many an occasion- and he has his ums and uhs and pauses- but not this time.
He was so quick that Mr. Warren had to ask him additional questions (lucky for us he had them on hand, yes?)

While Obama had to actually consider, and think, and ponder his answers- which is what one does when one has to really answer an unknown question.

I've never been to an Obama website, so I don't really have any idea what they are saying- however- on Face the Nation, and Meet the Press- the possibility that McCain had ready answers because he knew thew questions, was speculated on by minds greater than my own.

So, I know I'm not crazy or paranoid to notice this.

Also, where was Michelle?

We got a few snips of Cindy in the first row- but no Michelle.
Odd, isn't it?

Yes, McCain was undoubtedly 'preaching to the choir', but his sermon seemed just a wee bit TOO preprared for my credibility sniff test.

A perfect example of why the role of faith or belief systems is a valid question is the question posed by Pastor Warren on when life begins. When you take the oath as President you are taking an oath to protect life. If Obama does not have an opinion on when life begins (highly doubtful, but his answer), how can he take an oath to protect it?
